Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or above in CS/IT or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of professional experience in database administration or engineering.
• Strong hands-on production experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.
• Deep understanding of replication, HA, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
• Extensive experience with AWS database services (RDS, Aurora, ElastiCache).
• Strong Linux administration and SQL troubleshooting skills.
• Proficiency in Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages for automation.
• Experience with Terraform, Ansible or other IaC tools.
• Networking fundamentals (DNS, TCP/IP) and cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Own production and non-production database environments across multiple regions.
• Design, operate, and optimize databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB, etc.
• Manage AWS database services including RDS, Aurora, ElastiCache, DynamoDB.
• Design HA and DR architectures with replication, backup, and recovery drills.
• Monitor health, availability, performance, and capacity; lead incident response and RCA.
• Automate provisioning, configuration, backup, and monitoring using Python/Bash and IaC.
• Enforce database security, access controls, encryption, and auditing.
• Provide technical leadership and guide migrations, upgrades, and optimization projects.

Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator (Senior DBA) to lead database reliability, performance, availability, and operational excellence across our global business.

You will oversee production database environments supporting e-commerce, IoT, mobile, and internal business systems, ensuring they remain highly available, secure, scalable, and performant across AWS and multiple geographic regions.

Working closely with SRE, DevOps, application development, data engineering, and security teams, you will drive database architecture standardization, automation, cloud migration, and operational best practices to build a resilient and secure database infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Database Operations & Administration: Own production and non-production database environments across multiple regions, managing deployment, configuration, maintenance, upgrades, patching, and capacity planning.


• Database Architecture & Performance: Design, operate, and optimize database solutions across MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB, and other relevant technologies. Perform SQL and index optimization, execution plan analysis, and database parameter tuning.


• AWS Database Management: Manage AWS database services, including Amazon RDS, Aurora, ElastiCache, DynamoDB, and related cloud infrastructure.


• High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Design and implement high-availability and disaster-recovery architectures, including replication, failover, backup, and recovery mechanisms. Conduct regular backup validation and disaster recovery drills.


• Monitoring & Incident Management: Monitor database health, availability, performance, and capacity. Lead incident response and root cause analysis, proactively mitigate risks, and establish and improve database SLOs and SLAs.


• Automation & Infrastructure as Code: Automate database provisioning, configuration, backup, monitoring, and maintenance using Python, Bash, or similar scripting languages. Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform and related tools.


• Database Security & Governance: Establish database access control, authentication, encryption, and auditing standards. Enforce least-privilege access policies and support vulnerability remediation and security hardening.


• Technical Leadership & Projects: Provide technical guidance to DBA and SRE engineers, contribute to architecture reviews and technology selection, and lead major database migration, upgrade, and optimization initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.


• At least 7 years of professional experience in database administration or database engineering.


• Strong hands-on production experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.


• Deep understanding of database architecture, replication, high availability, backup and recovery, and performance tuning.


• Extensive experience with AWS database services, particularly Amazon RDS, Aurora, and ElastiCache.


• Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, with excellent SQL troubleshooting and performance optimization capabilities.


• Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or similar technologies.


• Experience with Terraform, Ansible, or other infrastructure-as-code tools.


• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, TCP/IP, and cloud infrastructure.


• Proven experience supporting high-traffic, business-critical production systems.


• Strong incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis capabilities.

Nice-to-Have

• Experience with MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, or other distributed systems.


• Experience designing and operating AWS multi-region architectures.


• Experience leading database migration, modernization, and cloud transformation projects.


• Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure.


• Experience with observability and monitoring platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Amazon CloudWatch.


• Background in e-commerce, IoT, SaaS, or high-growth internet companies.


• AWS certification or an equivalent professional certification.
