Job summary

OCBC Bank is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build scalable APIs, optimize backend services, and seamlessly integrate traditional AI and generative AI models to accelerate innovation and business growth. As a senior member, you will own development from ideation to production and shape product direction with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python, JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints.
• Solid SQL and NoSQL knowledge (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.).
• Familiarity with CI/CD, testing and monitoring tools.
• Experience with containers and Kubernetes/Docker.

To succeed in this role

To succeed in this role, you'll need to stay at the forefront of AI/ ML platform advancements and apply your expertise to drive business outcomes. This means collaborating with stakeholders to understand business needs, designing and developing scalable AI solutions, and continuously monitoring and improving model performance. You'll need to balance technical complexity with business acumen and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What you do

• Architect, design, develop, and maintain high performance, scalable backend systems using modern programming languages and framework.
• Implement high-quality, scalable code that adheres to industry standards and best practices, and take ownership of maintaining a robust suite of microservices, RESTful APIs, and GraphQL endpoints that drive business value.
• Drive technical architecture vision by leading discussions and contributing to the design of the system's overall structure.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including data scientists, software engineers, and business users, to distill product requirements into actionable solutions, and develop accurate estimates of effort required to deliver high-impact results.
• Manage databases, including data modelling, query optimization, and ensuring data integrity.
• Ensure the reliability and availability of backend systems through monitoring, performance tuning, and incident management.

Who you are

• Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in backend development, with strong proficiency in Python, JavaScript, Typescript and their frameworks.
• Solid experience in building and maintaining RESTful APIs, GraphQL and other service-based architectures.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and experience in RDBMS and/or NoSQL technologies (e.g. PostgreSQL, YugabyteDB, MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Familiar with CI/CD pipeline, version control, and automated testing frameworks (e.g. Jenkins, Git, Bitbucket).
• Experience with monitoring tools such as PLG or ELK stack.
• Good understanding of containers, build systems, and infrastructure automation with experience in Kubernetes and Docker.
