Job summary

Smart IMS Inc is seeking a skilled AS400 engineer with 8+ years of experience to join our post-trade back-office team. You will support production incidents across global sites and help design and enhance critical post-trade applications using RPG, CL, and DB2/400.

You will collaborate with users to solve problems, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive performance improvements while integrating legacy AS/400 with modern platforms via APIs, web services, or MQ.

Qualifications

• At least 6 years of experience in technical support with trading or financial services applications.
• Expert-level proficiency in implementing and managing AS400 systems.
• Advanced knowledge of DB2/400, complex SQL concepts, and data mapping for financial transactions.
• Deep understanding of capital markets, custody, clearing, and post-trade settlement cycles.
• Experience with high-availability tools, backup/recovery, and system performance tuning.
• Familiarity with SWIFT messaging standards and integration protocols like MQ.
• Strong problem-solving abilities with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently and with a team in a dynamic environment.
• Keen interest in financial markets.

Responsibilities

• Provide Level 2/3 support for production incidents in highly sensitive financial environments, often across multiple global sites
• Designing and maintaining software modules using languages like RPG (III, IV, Free Form) and CL.
• Performing OS upgrades, managing LPAR configurations, and handling patch management to ensure system stability.
• Enhance the AS400 system by developing new process, and refreshing existing process to ensure optimal performance.
• Lead the design and development of critical post-trade applications used for trade matching, settlement, and payment processing.
• Automate and streamline complex post-execution operations, including trade booking, intercompany settlements, and connectivity to global exchanges or clearing houses.
• Lead initiatives to integrate legacy AS/400 applications with modern platforms using APIs, web services, or middleware like IBM App Connect Enterprise or MQ.
• Ensure systems meet stringent regulatory requirements for data integrity, security, security hardening and disaster recovery.
• Coordinate overall testing, approval and deployment of new enhancements, including post-deployment verifications.
• Handle ad-hoc tasks such as generating reports and providing custom data analysis upon request.
• Keep an eye of application’s performance, identify areas for improvement, and take proactive steps to prevent future issues.
