Job summary

GAIN EMPLOYMENT SERVICES PTE. LTD. is seeking a School Science Lab Assistant for a 1-year contract to support teachers and prepare materials for practical work in the science labs.

You will maintain outdoor learning spaces, assist with horticultural tasks, ensure safety rules are followed, manage stock and orders, and perform duties assigned by School Leaders. You may also support with equipment like Vegepods and related safety checks.

Qualifications

• Good understanding of laboratory safety.
• Studied science in school or at a recognized institute.
• At least O Levels or 2 years' primary school lab experience.
• Good communication with adults and children.
• Proficient with Word, Excel and PowerPoint for records.
• Hands-on skills to repair science learning materials.
• Knowledge of plant growing and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Provide logistical and technical support for teachers in charge of science.
• Prepare and maintain materials and apparatus for practical work.
• Uphold laboratory safety and risk assessment through housekeeping.
• Assist HOD(Science) with resource collation, stock checks, orders, deliveries, and records.
• Perform other duties as assigned by school leaders.

Job description

Contract Period: 1 Jan 2027 to 31 Dec2027 with an option to extend for a further period of 1 year

Working hours:

• Mondays to Fridays: 7.30am to 5.00pm, inclusive of 60 mins lunch break
• Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays

Working hours and services may be adjusted according to our school’s needs

Scope of services:

• (a) Provide logistical and technical support to the teachers-in-charge of science, contributing to students' learning experience by assisting with the preparation and maintenance of materials/apparatus for practical work.
• (b) Upkeep and maintain the school's outdoor green learning spaces through the conduct of regular horticultural activities including de-weeding, plant pruning, fruit protection, and harvesting, as well as the propagation and replacement of plants, and routine maintenance and servicing of associated equipment such as Vegepods and self-watering timers.
• (c) Ensure laboratory safety rules and risk-assessment guidelines are adhered to through proper housekeeping and regular maintenance of safety equipment's and fittings in the Science laboratory.
• (d) Assist HOD(Science) to collate existing resources, maintain stock checks, place orders, take care of deliveries and invoices as well as keep departmental financial records.
• (e) To perform any other duty assigned by School Leaders, HOD(Science) and other assigned School Staff.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

• (a) A good understanding of laboratory safety would be essential.
• (b) Preferably have studied science in school or a recognized institute of learning.
• (c) At least ‘O’ Levels certificate or minimum 2 years' experience working in a primary school laboratory.
• (d) Good communicator who can work well with both adults and children.
• (e) Proficient in use of Microsoft productivity tools such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint to maintain proper book-keeping records.
• (f) Proficient in hands-on skills to carry out simple repairs on common Science learning materials such as electrical circuit components or customized activity kits.
• (g) Good knowledge with practical skills on the growing and maintenance of plants
