Job summary

Neara is hiring a Software Engineer to drive the development of the hardware-software integration layer for autonomous cleaning robots. The role spans embedded systems, robotics middleware, and hardware interfaces, focusing on sensor drivers and bridging ROS autonomy with embedded control.

You will develop and optimize ROS-based hardware drivers for lidars, cameras, ToFs, and other peripherals, while ensuring robust dataflow and reliable telemetry across our fleet.

Qualifications

• Degree in CS, EE, robotics or related field.
• Proficient in C++ and Python on Linux.
• Experience with ROS1/ROS2.
• Familiarity with CAN, UART, I2C, SPI.
• Experience with STM32 or ARM Cortex‑M MCUs.
• Experience with hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD).
• Real‑time OS familiarity is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test and maintain ROS-based hardware drivers for sensor suite on robot platform.
• Profile driver performance for low latency and high throughput.
• Debug sensor communication across CAN, USB, UART, I2C and SPI.
• Bridge ROS layer and MCU embedded control system.
• Design custom protocols between IPC and embedded controllers.
• Own end-to-end testing pipeline for IPC-embedded interface and regression tests.
• Own the bootloader update pipeline for firmware updates.
