Job summary

China Taiping Insurance (Singapore) Pte Ltd is seeking an experienced risk engineer to perform on-site risk surveys for Property and Engineering risks across commercial, industrial, and construction sectors. You will assess exposures, review protection systems, and prepare professional risk survey reports with improvement recommendations.

The role supports underwriting, claims, and management teams, ensuring risks are understood and mitigated.

Qualifications

• Minimum degree in engineering, risk management, insurance, finance or business.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in commercial lines underwriting or risk engineering.
• Strong knowledge of property and/or engineering insurance underwriting.
• Experience in conducting on-site risk surveys and preparing professional reports.

Job description

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site risk surveys for Property and Engineering risks, including commercial, industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, construction and engineering projects.
• Assess fire, electrical, machinery, construction, operational, natural catastrophe and other relevant risk exposures.
• Review the adequacy of fire protection systems, fire detection and alarm systems, sprinkler systems, hydrants, emergency response arrangements and housekeeping standards.
• For Engineering risks, assess construction methodology, project management, temporary works, plant and equipment, testing/commissioning activities and site conditions.
• Identify major hazards, probable loss scenarios and potential Probable Maximum Loss (PML) exposures where applicable.
• Prepare professional risk survey reports, including findings, risk improvement recommendations and risk grading.
• Follow up with insureds, brokers and relevant parties on implementation of recommended risk improvements.

Risk Assessment & Technical Support

• Provide technical risk engineering advice to Underwriting, Claims, Distribution and Management teams.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, method statements, fire protection arrangements and other technical documents.
• Assist in assessing complex risks and major projects involving construction, manufacturing, utilities, power, infrastructure, data centres and other engineering-related operations.
• Support the development and enhancement of underwriting guidelines, risk assessment tools, survey templates and technical standards.
• Keep abreast of relevant Singapore regulatory requirements, industry standards, engineering practices and risk management developments.

Portfolio & Risk Management

• Assist in monitoring the quality and performance of the Property and Engineering portfolio.
• Identify high-hazard risks, concentration risks and potential accumulation exposures.
• Recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures, underwriting restrictions and risk improvement requirements.
• Work closely with Reinsurance to ensure risks are written within treaty requirements and underwriting authority.
• Maintain proper documentation of underwriting decisions, risk surveys and risk improvement follow-ups.

Job Requirements

• Minimum Degree qualification in Engineering, Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Commercial Lines Underwriting, Risk Engineering, Insurance Surveying, Loss Prevention, Engineering or related insurance industry experience.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience in Property and/or Engineering insurance underwriting.
• Experience in conducting on-site risk surveys and preparing professional risk survey reports.
• Good understanding of fire protection, electrical systems, machinery, building construction, industrial processes and engineering risks.

• Good understanding of Contractor's All Risks (CAR), Erection All Risks (EAR), Industrial All Risks (IAR), Property Damage and Business Interruption is an advantage.
