Job description

NOTE: This is a 6 -12 month contract role, with the possibility of extension based on performance.

About NTI Membranes:

NTI is a Singapore-based leader in advanced membrane technology, dedicated to providing sustainable energy and water recovery solutions. We specialize in designing, manufacturing, and integrating high-performance hollow fiber membrane systems like for municipal, industrial, and commercial applications. Our mission is to help our clients "close the energy and water loop" by turning wastewater and waste heat into a valuable resource, ensuring a sustainable future for Singapore and the region.

The Opportunity

Join our R&D team and work on applied research that directly improves our water and energy recovery solutions. As a process engineer, you will play a key role in developing, testing, and optimizing membrane-based treatment solutions for industrial wastewater and energy recovery applications. This position is highly hands‑on, involving extensive pilot-scale work to evaluate system performance, advance process designs, and support innovations that enable water reuse and resource recovery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain pilot-scale membrane systems to support research and process development activities.
  • Conduct experiments on various industrial wastewaters to evaluate treatment efficiency, optimize system design, and validate process improvements.
  • Monitor and record key performance parameters, including flux, trans‑membrane pressure (TMP), permeate quality, energy consumption, and water quality indicators such as COD, BOD, TSS, conductivity, and pH.
  • Perform membrane autopsies to identify fouling mechanisms, characterize foulant types, and assess the effectiveness of cleaning protocols.
  • Carry out fouling and performance diagnostics to support troubleshooting, process optimization, and long‑term reliability evaluations.
  • Analyze experimental datasets to determine optimal operating conditions and provide data‑driven recommendations for process enhancement.
  • Collaborate with R&D, operations, and engineering teams to interpret results and translate lab‑scale findings into scalable solutions.
  • Document all test results, prepare technical reports, and present performance insights to internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure safe operation of pilot equipment, maintain good housekeeping practices, and adhere to laboratory and site safety procedures.
Who You Are:
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • Experienced in hands‑on pilot‑scale operations, including system set‑up, equipment monitoring, and troubleshooting during wastewater treatment trials.
  • Familiar with membrane separation processes, fouling behaviors, and performance diagnostics in real operating environments.
  • Careful, methodical, and focused on collecting accurate data under varying site conditions.
  • Driven to address real‑world environmental challenges by applying engineering principles to full‑scale process development.
  • Able to work effectively with cross‑functional teams on‑site while remaining capable of managing independent tasks in a fast‑moving pilot facility.
