Director of Mechanical Engineering

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead the mechanical engineering function and provide technical leadership across major building and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will have strong expertise in Air-Conditioning & Mechanical Ventilation (ACMV) systems, with proven experience delivering complex projects within data centres, healthcare, aviation, commercial developments, or other mission-critical environments.

The role will oversee mechanical engineering design, project delivery, technical standards and engineering teams, working closely with clients, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards of quality, performance, safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical engineering function and provide technical direction across major projects.
• Oversee the design, engineering and implementation of ACMV systems, ensuring solutions meet project requirements, statutory regulations and industry standards.
• Provide technical leadership from concept and design development through construction, commissioning and project completion.
• Review and approve mechanical engineering designs, calculations, specifications, drawings and technical submissions.
• Lead the engineering team in developing efficient, reliable and cost-effective mechanical solutions.
• Work closely with architects, electrical engineers, structural engineers, consultants, contractors and clients to resolve multidisciplinary engineering issues.
• Ensure mechanical designs are fully coordinated with other building services and architectural requirements.
• Provide technical oversight on HVAC, chilled water, ventilation, cooling and associated mechanical systems.
• Drive design optimisation, value engineering, energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives.
• Review project risks, technical challenges and constructability issues, providing appropriate engineering solutions.
• Oversee testing, commissioning and performance verification of mechanical systems.
• Ensure compliance with relevant Singapore codes, regulations, authority requirements and industry standards.
• Lead technical discussions with clients, consultants, contractors and regulatory authorities.
• Develop engineering standards, design guidelines and best practices across the organisation.
• Mentor, develop and build a strong mechanical engineering team.
• Support business development activities, including technical proposals, client presentations and project tenders.

Project Experience

Candidates with significant project experience in one or more of the following environments are preferred:

• Industrial or other complex M&E projects

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification in Singapore is required.
• Typically 15+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, with substantial experience in large-scale building projects.
• Strong technical expertise in ACMV/HVAC systems.
• Proven experience leading mechanical engineering teams and multidisciplinary projects.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design, project delivery, commissioning and building services coordination.
• Experience working with consultants, contractors, clients and regulatory authorities.
• Strong project management, technical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and leadership capabilities.
• Candidates from data centre, healthcare, aviation or major commercial development projects are strongly preferred.
