THOUGHT AND WORDS LEARNING CENTRE PTE. LTD. in Katong is seeking a Part-Time English Teacher to commence in January 2027. You will deliver structured 2‑hour lessons to small classes, mark student writing, and communicate progress with parents.

Job description

We are a boutique English writing centre located in Katong. Established in 2017, we specialise in small-group classes for primary school students, helping them develop strong writing, language, and comprehension skills through thoughtful, personalised instruction.

We are looking for an experienced and committed Part-Time English Teacher to join our teaching team starting January 2027.

Ideal Candidate

• Singaporean

• Former MOE primary school teacher with a degree in English Language, English Literature, or a related discipline; or

• Has at least 2 years of teaching experience in a tuition or enrichment centre offering English language or writing programmes.

We're Looking for Someone Who:

• Has an excellent command of spoken and written English.

• Enjoys working with primary school students in small-group settings (max 12 students/class).

• Is warm, patient, and professional in their interactions with students and parents.

• Is organised, dependable, and able to manage responsibilities independently.

• Lives in, or within reasonable travelling distance of, Katong.

The Role

• Conduct engaging, structured 2-hour lessons.

• Deliver lessons using the centre's teaching materials and curriculum.

• Mark students' written work and provide clear, constructive feedback.

• Communicate professionally with parents regarding students' progress and learning needs.

• Attend training and programme familiarisation sessions in October/November 2026.

• Be available to teach from January to November 2027, including the March and September school holidays (4 terms) No teaching is required during the June break (approximately three weeks) or the year-end holidays.

Schedule and Commitment

• Initial teaching load of 3 lessons per week.

• Opportunity to increase to up to 6 lessons per week, depending on availability, performance, and enrolment needs.

• Classes are typically scheduled on weekday afternoons and Saturdays.

• Candidates should ideally be available to teach across all four terms in 2027, including the March and September school holiday programmes.

• Training and onboarding will take place in October/November 2026.

Compensation: $110-$175 per lesson*

The lesson rate (work block) includes:

• 2 hours of classroom teaching

• 1.5 hours of non-teaching duties, including lesson familiarisation, marking, parent engagement and related administrative tasks

*The lesson rates will depend on relevant teaching experience, qualifications, programme expertise.
