Job summary

MTS SYSTEMS ENGINEERING PTE. LTD. in Singapore seeks an Optical Transmission Network Engineer to own incident management, perform RCA, and coordinate cross-functional teams to restore services quickly.

You will manage vendor support, lead critical incident responses, monitor network health, and ensure adherence to ITIL-like processes while focusing on DWDM, SDH, MPLS-TP, and data center integration.

Qualifications

• Solid understanding of Transmission fundamentals: SDH, MPLS-TP, DWDM, MS-OTN.
• Proven troubleshooting experience with complex network problems.
• Experience with advanced technologies such as ASON, Raman, FIDS, C+L, Long haul, OXC, QKD is a plus.
• Knowledge of Data Center environment.
• Strong analytical and communication skills to isolate root causes and provide resolutions.

Responsibilities

• Own incident and problem management for DWDM network incidents; perform root cause analysis to resolve chronic issues and security threats.
• Collaborate with cross-functional infra teams to troubleshoot and isolate network root causes for rapid service restoration.
• Drive vendor management by coordinating with hardware/software support teams for issues, patches, and resolutions.
• Lead high-pressure critical incident response (P1/P2) with efficient troubleshooting, temporary workarounds, and final fixes to minimize business impact.
• Coordinate technical resolution via conference calls with support teams to accelerate problem identification.
• Communicate clearly and work independently on complex assignments with professional technical writing.
• Ensure strict adherence to customer policies, change management, SOPs, and security standards.
• Perform necessary configuration, commissioning, and optimization of transmission devices per customer requirements.
• Conduct proactive network analysis and health checks to identify capacity bottlenecks or performance degradation.
• Execute scheduled preventive maintenance and provide detailed reporting on network health and follow-up actions.
• Maintain professional customer relationships and provide proactive technical advice on infrastructure improvements and risks.
• Act as SME to guide TDs/teams on complex problem resolutions.
• Demonstrate the ability to work under high pressure to meet strict SLAs.

Key Responsibilities for Optical Transmission Network Engineer

1. Incident & Problem Management: Own the end-to-end resolution of DWDM network incidents escalated from L1/L2, performing root cause analysis (RCA) to resolve chronic problems and security threats, aligning with ITIL processes.

2. Infrastructure Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional infra teams to troubleshoot and isolate network-related root causes, ensuring rapid service restoration.

3. Vendor Management: Drive technical resolution by managing network vendor support teams for hardware/software issues, troubleshooting, and patching. identification and resolution of network problem.

4. Critical Incident Response: Manage high-pressure, critical network incidents (P1/P2) by leading troubleshooting efforts, applying emergency workarounds, and implementing final fixes to minimize business impact.

5. Technical Coordination: Drive technical conference calls with support teams to accelerate problem identification and resolution.

6. Communication & Autonomy: Deliver clear, professional technical communication (verbal/written) and work independently on complex assignments.

7. Process Compliance: Strictly adhere to Customer policies regarding change management, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and security standards.

8. Configuration: Perform neccassary configuration, commissioning, and optimization of transmission devices based on customer requirements.

9. Network Insight & Optimization: Perform proactive network analysis and health checks to identify potential capacity bottlenecks or performance degradation.

10. Preventive Maintenance (PM): Execute scheduled preventive maintenance tasks, monitor performance, and provide detailed reporting on network health check results and follow-up actions.

11. Customer Relationship Management: Maintain a professional relationship with the customer, providing proactive technical advice on infrastructure improvements and potential risks.

12. Team Collaboration: Act as a subject matter expert (SME) to provide technical guidance and collaborate with other TDs (Technical Directors/Teams) on complex problem resolutions.

13. High-Pressure Reliability: Demonstrate the ability to work under high pressure with minimal supervision to meet strict SLAs (Service Level Agreements).

Requirement:

• Transmission Fundamentals: In-depth understanding of Transmission network concepts - SDH, MPLS-TP, DWDM, MS-OTN
• Troubleshooting: Advanced hands‑on experience in troubleshooting complex network problems
• Advanced Technologies: Experience with advanced technologies such as ASON, Raman, FIDS, C+L, Long haul, OXC, QKD will be advantage.
• Data Center Focus: Knowledge of Data Center environment.
• Soft skills: Logical thinking and problem analysis skills to troubleshoot complex network problem to isolate the root cause and provide suitable resolution.

*with preference for experience in ASON, Raman, FIDS, C+L, Long haul, OXC, QKD and Data Center technologies.

Education:

- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent IT filed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• HCIE Transmission certification is an advantage.
