Job summary

ifm is seeking an experienced Optical Design Engineer to join the R&D team in Singapore. You will design photoelectric sensors and optical systems using Zemax/Optical Studio, ensuring performance within mechanical and electrical tolerances.

You will create test plans, verify results, and implement countermeasures. You will collaborate with electronic and mechanical engineers on light sources, receivers, and mechanical parts, while supporting cross‑functional teams on new products and lifecycle

Qualifications

• Master/degree in Electronic/Optoelectronic Engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years of relevant experience in optical design and development.
• Experience with optical system design in software (ZEMAX / Optical Studio).
• Good knowledge in photonic design for optical sensors is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Design and development of photoelectric sensors.
• Use optical design software to design optical systems including lens, aperture, and filters to meet sensor specifications within tolerances.
• Create detailed optical test plans, perform verification and implement countermeasures.
• Collaborate with EEs on light source/receiver and ME on mechanical parts design.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on new/custom products and sustain product lifecycle including customer complaints and obsolescence.

Job description

• Design and development of photoelectric sensors
• Using optical design software to design optical system that includes lens, aperture, filters meeting sensor specification considering mechanical and electrical tolerance
• Create detail optical test plan and perform verification and implement countermeasures
• Collaborate with Electronic Engineers to define the light source and receiver, and Mechanical Engineers on the mechanical parts design
• Collaborate with cross functional teams on new and custom products development, and sustain product lifecycle including customer complaints, components obsolescence, failure analysis, etc.
• Liaising with Headquarter for technical support and technology transfer

Job Requirements:

• Master/Degree in Electronic/Optoelectronic Engineering or equivalent
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in optical design and development
• Experience on optical system design in optical design software; i.e. ZEMAX / Optical studio
• Good knowledge in photonic design for optical sensor is an advantage
• Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
• Creative, self-driven and willing to acquire new skills and grow in the position
