Job summary

Direct Search Global is seeking a Market Analyst to deliver research and commercial intelligence for the global dry-bulk shipping market. You will analyse vessel supply, cargo demand, freight rates and commodity flows to support commercial decision-making.

Working closely with shipbrokers and commercial teams, you will transform complex market data into actionable forecasts, reports and insights for internal stakeholders and clients.

Qualifications

• 2 to 5 years of experience in dry-bulk shipping, shipbroking, commodities, market research or data analysis.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data modelling and advanced formulas.
• Experience using Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python or similar analytical tools would be advantageous.
• Familiarity with shipping databases, vessel-tracking platforms and market-information services would be beneficial.
• Strong report-writing, presentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor global dry-bulk freight markets, vessel movements and cargo activity.
• Analyse vessel supply, fleet growth, orderbooks, scrapping activity and utilisation.
• Track the production, trade and consumption of major dry-bulk commodities.
• Evaluate cargo flows involving iron ore, coal, grains, bauxite, minor bulks and other commodities.
• Monitor freight rates and market developments across Capesize, Panamax, Supramax, Ultramax and Handysize segments.
• Develop short-, medium- and long-term market forecasts.
• Maintain and improve freight, vessel and commodity databases.
• Prepare regular market reports, presentations and commercial briefings.
• Produce route, region and commodity-specific analysis for internal stakeholders and clients.
• Assess the impact of geopolitical events, port congestion, regulations, weather and economic developments on freight markets.
• Work with brokers and commercial teams to identify market trends and trading opportunities.
• Respond to ad hoc research and data requests.
• Present market views clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Improve analytical models, dashboards and reporting processes.

• Degree in Economics, Finance, Maritime Studies, Statistics, Data Analytics or a related discipline.
• 2 to 5 years of experience in dry-bulk shipping, shipbroking, commodities, market research or data analysis.
• Good understanding of dry-bulk vessels, freight markets, commodities and international trade flows.
• Strong quantitative, analytical and research capabilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data modelling and advanced formulas.
• Experience using Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python or similar analytical tools would be advantageous.
• Familiarity with shipping databases, vessel-tracking platforms and market-information services would be beneficial.
