Job description

M&E Engineer

Alleviative Engineering Pte. Ltd.

Alleviative Engineering is looking for a practical, responsible and hands‑on M&E Engineer to join our team.

This role is suitable for someone who enjoys being directly involved in actual M&E works, solving technical problems, leading installations and seeing work through from planning to completion.

For us, working attitude, responsibility and ownership are equally as important as technical experience.

We are looking for someone who is willing to learn, willing to work with the site team, willing to take responsibility and willing to personally resolve problems when they arise.

This is not a purely office-based engineering or coordination role.

The successful candidate must be prepared to work actively on site, lead M&E installations, troubleshoot technical issues and attend night works when required.

Key Responsibilities

The M&E Engineer will be responsible for the planning, technical coordination, installation, troubleshooting, testing and completion of assigned Mechanical & Electrical works.

Responsibilities include:

  • Review and understand drawings, specifications, approved submissions and technical requirements.
  • Understand the complete scope of works and verify actual site conditions before execution.
  • Plan manpower, materials, equipment, tools, access requirements and work sequences.
  • Lead all M&E installation works, technical coordination, troubleshooting and site problem-solving activities.
  • Take ownership of technical issues from identification through final resolution.
  • Provide practical technical direction to supervisors, workers and subcontractors.
  • Ensure the site team understands the required installation method, sequence, quality and technical requirements.
  • Personally attend and resolve critical technical or installation issues where required.
  • Coordinate daily site activities with supervisors, workers, subcontractors and other trades.
  • Coordinate with Main Contractor, Client, Consultants, suppliers and specialist contractors.
  • Attend site meetings, technical meetings, coordination meetings, inspections and progress meetings where required.
  • Carry out regular site inspections and verify actual site conditions and work progress personally.
  • Check installation quality, routing, levels, equipment locations, accessibility, clearances and maintainability.
  • Identify clashes, missing information, access issues, constructability problems and technical risks early.
  • Develop practical solutions and follow through until the issue is resolved.
  • Ensure works are installed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements and applicable requirements.
  • Verify completed works before inspection, testing and handover.
  • Monitor actual site progress and highlight delays, constraints or risks early.
  • Implement practical recovery actions where required.
  • Plan materials and equipment ahead of site requirements to prevent unnecessary delays.
  • Verify that materials and equipment delivered are correct and suitable for the intended installation.
  • Review shop drawings, coordination drawings, technical details and as‑built drawings.
  • Coordinate drawing revisions according to actual site conditions.
  • Prepare, review or coordinate technical submissions, material submissions, method statements, inspection requests and supporting documentation.
  • Lead and coordinate testing, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
  • Be personally involved in critical testing, shutdowns, equipment changeovers and rectification works.
  • Investigate system faults or testing failures and ensure proper rectification and retesting.
  • Coordinate defects rectification and outstanding works until proper completion.
  • Support final inspection, testing, handover and close‑out activities.
  • Identify additional works, changes in scope and potential variation works.
  • Maintain proper measurements, photographs and supporting records for additional works.
  • Provide clear, accurate and timely updates to Management on progress, technical issues, manpower, materials, risks and outstanding matters.
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and follow matters through until they are properly completed.
Hands‑On Requirement

Hands‑on involvement is a core requirement of this position.

The M&E Engineer must understand how the work is actually carried out on site and be comfortable working directly with supervisors, workers and subcontractors.

This includes:

  • Taking actual site measurements.
  • Verifying routes and installation locations.
  • Checking equipment and material conditions.
  • Inspecting installation works personally.
  • Understanding installation methods and work sequences.
  • Guiding the site team on practical installation requirements.
  • Resolving installation difficulties.
  • Troubleshooting equipment and system issues.
  • Checking completed works before inspection.
  • Supporting and leading testing and commissioning.
  • Attending critical works personally when required.

The Engineer must not depend only on drawings, emails, WhatsApp updates or information provided by others.

Where necessary, the Engineer is expected to go to site, check the actual condition and resolve the matter directly.

Technical and Installation Leadership

The M&E Engineer will be expected to lead and take responsibility for assigned technical and installation works.

Depending on the project, this may include:

  • ACMV systems.
  • Chilled water systems.
  • Ductwork and ventilation systems.
  • FCUs, AHUs, PAUs and related mechanical equipment.
  • Electrical distribution systems.
  • DBs, MCCBs, MCBs and isolators.
  • Power cables and containment systems.
  • Lighting and small power installations.
  • BMS and control systems.
  • ELV interfaces.
  • Fire protection and fire alarm interfaces.
  • Testing and commissioning.
  • Equipment replacement and changeover works.
  • Shutdown works.
  • Builder's work and M&E coordination.

The Engineer is not expected to personally hold every specialist licence or certification.

Where licensed, specialist or statutory works are required, the Engineer must coordinate properly with the relevant LEW, PE, QP, specialist contractor or authorised person.

Night Work Requirement

A significant portion of our works may be carried out in shopping malls, commercial buildings and occupied premises where installation works cannot always be performed during normal operating hours.

Night work is therefore an essential requirement of this position.

The M&E Engineer must be prepared to attend and lead works such as:

  • Night installation works.
  • Shutdown works.
  • Testing and commissioning.
  • Equipment replacement and changeover.
  • Critical troubleshooting.
  • Weekend works.
  • Public Holiday works.
  • Urgent rectification works where required.

Night work will depend on actual operational and project requirements and is not necessarily required every day.

However, candidates must be genuinely prepared to work at night when required.

Working Attitude

For this role, working attitude is one of the most important selection criteria.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Takes responsibility for assigned work.
  • Follows matters through until completion.
  • Does not require constant reminders or chasing.
  • Is willing to learn and improve.
  • Is willing to ask when something is not understood.
  • Goes to site and verifies matters personally.
  • Does not push problems to others unnecessarily.
  • Works together with supervisors, workers, subcontractors and colleagues.
  • Does not operate with a “this is not my job” mentality.
  • Raises problems early instead of waiting until they become serious.
  • Provides clear, accurate and straightforward updates.
  • Is willing to accept feedback and improve.
  • Is able to work under pressure while remaining practical and professional.
  • Is prepared to work hands‑on when required.
  • Is prepared to attend night works when required.
  • Takes pride in completing work properly.
  • Shows initiative while understanding when approval or guidance is required.
  • Respects colleagues, workers, subcontractors, clients and consultants.
  • Understands that successful M&E work requires teamwork, coordination and ownership.

Technical knowledge can be developed.

Experience can be gained.

What we value most is a person who has the right attitude, takes responsibility and genuinely wants to become a capable and dependable M&E Engineer.

Requirements
  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, M&E Engineering or related discipline.
  • Able to read and understand M&E drawings.
  • Practical understanding of construction and M&E installation works.
  • Relevant Singapore site experience will be advantageous.
  • Experience in ACMV and/or Electrical works will be highly advantageous.
  • Able to troubleshoot and resolve practical site issues.
  • Comfortable working directly with supervisors, workers and subcontractors.
  • Able to communicate effectively with Main Contractors, Consultants, suppliers and project stakeholders.
  • Able to prepare clear technical and site documentation.
  • AutoCAD knowledge will be advantageous.
  • Class 3 driving licence will be advantageous.
  • Willing to work on site.
  • Willing to perform hands‑on duties.
  • Willing to work nights, weekends and Public Holidays where required.

Fresh graduates or less‑experienced candidates with strong practical ability, good working attitude and willingness to learn may also be considered.

What We Offer

The successful candidate will receive practical exposure across real M&E works and will have the opportunity to develop beyond basic administrative or coordination duties.

Depending on capability and performance, the Engineer will progressively gain experience and responsibility in:

  • M&E installation leadership.
  • Technical troubleshooting.
  • ACMV and Electrical systems.
  • Testing and commissioning.
  • Site coordination.
  • Client and Consultant coordination.
  • Planning and work sequencing.
  • Technical submissions.
  • Cost and variation awareness.
  • Subcontractor coordination.
  • Handover and close‑out.
  • Team leadership and higher engineering responsibilities.

We are looking for someone who wants to build strong practical M&E experience and grow into a competent engineer who can independently lead technical works and deliver results.
