Job summary

Government Technology Agency (GovTech) in Singapore seeks a Principal/Senior/Executive Software Engineer to design, develop, modernise and operate digital services. You will build secure, scalable solutions across the delivery lifecycle using cloud-native patterns and modern frameworks.

You will collaborate with product owners, solution architects and operations teams to translate service needs into working software, maintain code quality and drive continuous improvement in production

Qualifications

• Knowledge in IT, CS or related discipline.
• 2–3 years of relevant software development experience.
• Hands-on in front-end development and preferably full-stack development with modern frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop front-end and back-end components, APIs and integrations.
• Build and enhance cloud-native services on AWS with microservices and event-driven patterns.
• Write clean, testable code; participate in code reviews and quality practices.
• Implement automated unit, integration, security and performance tests.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation and release processes.
• Implement monitoring, logging, tracing and alerting for operations and incidents.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis and fixes.
• Modernise existing services via refactoring, re-platforming and cloud migration.
• Prepare technical docs, runbooks and support procedures.
• Work in an Agile/DevSecOps environment and contribute to estimation, design and delivery.

What the role is

PRINCIPAL / SENIOR / EXECUTIVE SOFTWARE ENGINEER

What you will be working on

You will design, develop, implement, modernise and operate digital services and supporting application components. You will work across the software delivery lifecycle and take hands‑on responsibility for building secure, reliable and maintainable solutions using modern cloud and software engineering practices. You will work with product owners, solution architects, engineers and operational teams to translate service needs into working software and continuously improve the services after deployment.

Your responsibilities include:

• Designing and developing front‑end and back‑end application components, APIs and system integrations.
• Building and enhancing cloud‑native services on AWS using appropriate managed services, microservices and event‑driven patterns.
• Writing clean, testable and maintainable code, and participating in code reviews and engineering quality practices.
• Implementing automated unit, integration, security and performance testing as part of the delivery pipeline.
• Building and improving CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation and release processes
• Implementing application monitoring, logging, tracing and alerting to support effective operations and incident response.
• Troubleshooting application and production issues, performing root‑cause analysis and implementing permanent fixes.
• Modernising existing services through refactoring, re‑platforming, API enablement and progressive cloud migration.
• Preparing and maintaining technical documentation, operational runbooks and system support procedures.
• Working in an Agile and DevSecOps environment and contributing to estimation, design, delivery, deployment and operational support.
• Evaluating and applying AI‑assisted software engineering tools where appropriate to improve productivity and software quality.

What we are looking for

Knowledge in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline. At least 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in software development and implementation. Hands‑on experience in front‑end development and preferably full‑stack development using modern frameworks and programming languages.

Strong knowledge in Java, J2EE and the Spring Framework (e.g. Spring Boot) for developing, integrating and maintaining enterprise‑grade applications and REST APIs.

Working knowledge of AWS cloud services, cloud‑native application patterns and deployment practices. Experience with REST APIs, system integration, databases, source control and automated testing. Understanding of Agile principles, DevSecOps, CI/CD, microservices and secure software development practices. Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively in a cross‑functional team and communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Willingness to take end‑to‑end ownership of services from development through deployment, operations and continuous improvement.
