Job summary

Government Technology Agency (GovTech) in Singapore is seeking a System Engineer (Devices) to help design and develop software for embedded front-end devices within an integrated e-payment fare collection system. Qualifications

• Experience in C++ software development in embedded systems or Windows platforms.
• Experience in object-oriented software design and UML modelling.
• Strong ability to translate requirements into system architectures and software designs.
• Experience with memory management, latency and real-time processing in resource-constrained environments.
• Experience with software-hardware integration, including familiarity with device drivers and low-level optimization.
• Knowledge of cloud computing, cloud-native services, cloud security, multi-tier architecture and microservices.
• Familiarity with SDLC methodologies such as RUP, Agile, or CI/CD practices.
• Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently and in a team.

What the role is

System Engineer (Devices), System Development

What you will be working on

You will be part of a team responsible for the software architecture, design and development of software running on front-end devices within an integrated e-payment fare collection system. This involves analysing user and operational needs, evaluating existing systems to identify gaps, and proposing solutions or enhancements to meet evolving requirements. You will engage stakeholders to clarify requirements, conduct technical studies and proof-of-concepts, and work closely with internal teams, users and vendors throughout the implementation, software-hardware integration and verification process, ensuring the software meets performance and operational demands.

What we are looking for

Knowledge in Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant discipline. Experience in C++ software development in embedded systems or Windows platforms. Experience in object-oriented software design and UML modelling. Strong skills in translating requirements into system architectures and software designs. In-depth knowledge of multi-threading, socket programming, inter-process communication and serial communication. Experience in software-hardware integration, including familiarity with hardware components, device drivers and low-level software optimisation. Knowledge of memory management, latency and real-time processing in resource-constrained environments. Knowledge of cloud architecture, including cloud computing, cloud-native services, cloud security, multi-tier architecture and microservices. Experience with SDLC methodologies such as RUP, Agile, or CI/CD practices. Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
