Job summary

Herbert Smith Freehills LLP is seeking an LPM Data Analyst to provide data-led insight and technology-enabled support on large, multi-jurisdictional matters in our Asia team.

You will prepare clear financial and operational reports using Excel and Power BI, cleanse and check data, and maintain dashboards to ensure outputs are accurate and client-ready. The role emphasizes AI, automation and training for stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Law, Management, Finance, Business, Data/Analytics or related subject, or equivalent experience.
• 1–3 years’ relevant experience in a professional services environment.
• Strong analytical ability with financial acumen and ability to simplify data for clear communication.
• Advanced Microsoft 365 skills and IT literacy with quick adaptability to new software.
• Advanced Excel capability with formulas, lookups, pivots, charts, and client-friendly formatting.
• Basic Power BI capability or clear aptitude to develop it quickly, including dashboard creation and basic DAX.
• Awareness of confidentiality, permissions, information security and version control.
• Experience handling financial or operational data including cleansing, reconciliation, validation, and presentation of complex data sets.
• Interest in AI/GenAI, legal tech, automation and innovation in legal service delivery.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong time management.

Responsibilities

• Prepare financial and operational reports using Excel and Power BI across matters.
• Create and maintain Power BI dashboards that are accurate and client-ready.
• Cleanse and check matter data, monitor finances, and escalate risks or anomalies.
• Support repeatable reporting processes and drive efficiency with legal tech initiatives.
• Deliver training and guidance to help stakeholders interpret metrics and use approved tools effectively.
