Job summary

sggovterp is seeking an educator to teach Software and Applications topics and guide youths and adult learners. The appointee will develop and maintain teaching curricula, review existing content, and participate in consultancy and applied research projects. Administrative work related to teaching and strategic initiatives will be expected.

The candidate should be resourceful, innovative, possess initiative and good communication skills, and be prepared to work in a team.

The job of an academic is challenging and meaningful. Not only will they have both the knowledge and working experience, but they must also possess the ability to deconstruct the knowledge and experience, guiding students to reconstruct them as their own knowledge. He/she must also possess a passion for working with youths, nurturing them, and moulding their characters. There will be opportunities to develop the curriculum, introduce new courses as well as be involved in consultancy and other applied research projects. Administrative work related to teaching and School/Institutional strategic initiatives will be an important part of the job too. Successful candidates will be expected to be resourceful and innovative with initiative and good communication skills.

What you will be working on

Software and Applications

The appointee must be competent to teach in at least one of the following subjects:

• Algorithm & Architecture Analysis - A good understanding of tools, frameworks, and language paradigms to make informed decisions about chosen implementations and their trade-offs on performance, such as time/space complexity, resource utilization, and system scalability.
• Database Systems - A good understanding of database performance optimization through techniques such as sharding, indexing, query tuning, concurrency, and the handling of distributed transactions.
• Distributed Systems - A good understanding of modern architectural patterns and system components-such as microservices, containerization, load balancing, and message queues-and how to integrate them to build reliable, scalable, and fault-tolerant infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Conduct lessons, create teaching and assessment materials, and facilitate learning of students (youths and adult learners)
• Develop and maintain new/existing teaching curriculum. This includes regular review of existing curriculum and make recommendations on areas of improvements that would enhance students' learning, performance and employability.
• Keep current and abreast of trends and developments of Software and Application Development.
• Support the School' strategic initiatives through involvement in committee work and projects such as process improvement projects, development and management of new courses

What we are looking for

• Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in Software/DevOps/Platform/Database engineering.
• Passionate about tinkering and hacking to gain understanding of the underlying mechanisms of things.
• Passionate about education and possess strong interest in guiding youths and adult learners in deconstructing and reconstructing knowledge.
• Self-driven, independent and possess readiness to work as a team.

Successful candidate will be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
