About the Job

As a Laboratory Analyst, you will perform chemical and physical tests on crude oils, process streams, petroleum products, petrochemical products, by-products, additives, aqueous samples, and pyrolysis oil. Your role ensures accurate and reliable product quality (PQ) results are delivered in compliance with Bukom Refinery HSSE standards, the Laboratory Quality Manual, and ISO/IEC 17025.

You will also perform sampling (including LPG and gas), troubleshoot laboratory equipment, and support plant testing during shutdowns/start-ups.

Key Responsibilities
  • Register, handle, and treat samples safely and promptly according to approved procedures.
  • Blend samples and/or add additives to samples when required.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents and calibration/validation standards using chemicals in a safe manner.
  • Conduct physical and chemical testing using approved methods without deviation (unless validated).
  • Perform statistical quality control of laboratory equipment and methods according to schedule.
  • Operate laboratory equipment under optimized test conditions and ensure equipment is in good working order.
  • Input validated test results promptly and accurately into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Notify supervisors of abnormal test or validation results and report laboratory remarks when deviations are observed.
  • Retain or dispose of tested samples in accordance with procedures.
  • Conduct special testing at plant units during shutdown/start-up as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory equipment at the level trained.
  • Support analytical and technological investigations, prepare reports, and share learning events.
  • Uphold HSSE standards:
    • Ensure safe practices in all laboratory tasks.
    • Intervene in case of unsafe behavior or non-compliance.
    • Practice good housekeeping of work areas and equipment.
  • Use laboratory resources (equipment, chemicals, solvents, consumables) efficiently and responsibly.
  • Assist with general lab tasks, including gas cylinder changes and taking cleaning solvents when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors, always in a safe and professional manner.
Job Requirements
  • A committed, responsible, and professional team player with strong integrity.
  • At least2 years of laboratory experience as an analyst is welcome.
  • Skilled in physical property testing, with knowledge of related test methods and equipment.
  • Familiar with HSSE compliance, laboratory safety, and safe handling of chemicals (MSDS).
  • Experience with product quality management (PQCP, procedures, controls) and statistical analysis.
  • Proficient in the use of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Knowledge of laboratory reporting, stock management, and equipment maintenance or procurement.
  • Background in training or competency assessments will be an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of refinery or chemical process units and product quality is a plus.

  • The salary range stated is inclusive of basic pay and shift allowance (where applicable).
  • Shift allowance is applicable only when performing shift duties.
