Job summary

GAIN EMPLOYMENT SERVICES PTE. LTD. is seeking a dedicated Science Laboratory Assistant in Singapore to support teachers with science activities, prepare resources and materials for laboratory sessions, and keep the Science Rooms organized and safe.

You will label and track resources, maintain stock records, assist in safety briefings, monitor equipment, handle waste disposal, and provide logistics support for science competitions and assessments, working both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Minimum Nitec / Higher Nitec in science or related field.
• At least 1 year experience assisting HOD-Science with lab operations.
• Experience supporting science programmes; STEM & Sustainability projects.
• Fluent in written and spoken English; good communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide teaching and learning support to teachers, prep resources/materials for science lab activities.
• Label and keep records of science teaching materials and lab resources; maintain loan records.
• Pack and organise the Science Rooms; keep spaces clean and conducive for lessons.
• Ensure lab equipment, materials and specimens are in good working condition; conduct stock-take twice a year.
• Dispose of waste materials properly; ensure safety protocols are followed and incident logbook maintained.
• Provide administrative/logistical support for science competitions, assessments and programmes.

Job description

Contract Period: 4 Jan to 31 Dec 2027 with an option to extend for a further period of 1 year

Working hours:

• Mondays to Thursdays: 7.30am to 5.00pm, inclusive of 1 hr lunch break
• Fridays: 7.30am to 4.00pm, inclusive of 1 hr lunch break
• Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays

Scope of services:

1. Provide teaching and learning support to teachers, for example, preparation of resources / materials for science laboratory activities and enrichment programme.
2. Label and keep records of existing and new Science teaching and learning materials and lab resources such as teachers' desk copies, reference books, lab apparatus and chemicals etc. Maintain loan records of Science Resources.
3. Pack and organise the resources in the Science Rooms. Ensure that the Science rooms are clean and conducive for lessons.
4. Ensure lab equipment, materials and specimens are in good working conditions. Conduct stock-take at least twice a year. Maintain a stock book and breakage record to initiate ordering of replacements where necessary.
5. Ensure proper disposal of waste materials such as sharp waste objects and chemicals.
6. Ensure safety of students in the Science rooms. Report any incident to Science HOD/ Level Head. Maintain a laboratory incident logbook.
7. Check that first aid box is updated, safety devices in the laboratory, such as emergency eye-washers, showers and fire extinguishers are working.
8. Provide administrative / logistical support for science competitions, assessments and programmes collation of survey results and distribution of science materials to pupils etc.
9. Assist in carrying out safety briefings such as Laboratory Safety, equipment awareness (e.g. Microscopes).
10. Any other duties assigned by the school

Qualifications, skills and experience:

• Minimum Nitec / Higher Nitec (ITE) in science or a related field, or its equivalent
• At least one year experience in assisting HOD-Science in the execution of daily Science Laboratory Operational and Administrative duties.
• Experience of providing support for science programmes; STEM & Sustainability projects and Laboratory-based lessons in schools.
• Experience in creating digital resources such as presentations and videos according to Science Experiential Learning Experiences using PowerPoint.
• Proficient in preparation and maintenance of Laboratory equipment.
• Fluent inwritten and spoken English.
• Good interpersonal, communication, planning and analytical skills.
• Has experience working with primary school students in school settings.
• Able to plan and work both independently and as part of a team
• Certified with standard first aid is not necessary but will be an advantage
