Job summary

A*STAR is expanding its Central Laboratory Operations on the Geneo campus. The Lab Operations Specialists will provide hands-on floor-level support for shared laboratories and ensure spaces are ready for research activities.

You will work with researchers, iCORE teams and service providers to handle routine tasks, inventory, equipment maintenance and safety compliance, while contributing to continuous improvement of workflows.

Qualifications

• Diploma, Nitec or other relevant tertiary qualification in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, Laboratory Technology, Engineering, Facilities or Operations Management, or a related discipline.
• Preferably 1 to 2 years of relevant experience in laboratory operations, research support, scientific facilities, facilities operations or a biomedical R&D environment.
• Basic familiarity with laboratory equipment, inventory, safety practices or compliance documentation is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational support for shared laboratories and common research areas on the assigned floor, ensuring spaces and services remain research ready.
• Serve as first point of contact for routine operational matters, service requests and fault reporting; track requests through to resolution or escalation.
• Conduct routine floor checks and follow defined checklists and schedules; identify irregularities and report risks promptly.
• Assist with onboarding, orientation, equipment familiarisation and operational briefings within training limits.
• Support moves, relocation, goods distribution and other practical operational activities.
• Monitor stock levels and replenish consumables and resources, including lab gases, dry ice and PPE.
• Coordinate floor-level collection and distribution of glassware and items to central washing or sterilisation services.
• Provide first-line response to basic equipment faults and support preventive maintenance and asset records.
