Job summary

A*STAR RESEARCH ENTITIES is expanding its Central Laboratory Operations at Geneo campus. The Lab Operations Specialist will deliver hands-on floor-level support for shared laboratories, manage supplies, and assist with onboarding and equipment handling to keep labs safe and research-ready.

You will work with researchers and cross-functional teams to resolve routine issues, maintain records, and contribute to continuous improvements in workflows and safety practices.

Qualifications

• Diploma, Nitec or other relevant tertiary qualification in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, Laboratory Technology, Engineering, Facilities or Operations Management, or a related discipline.
• Preferably 1 to 2 years of relevant experience in laboratory operations, research support, scientific facilities, facilities operations or a biomedical R&D environment.
• Basic familiarity with laboratory equipment, inventory, safety practices or compliance documentation is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational support for shared laboratories and common research areas on the assigned floor, ensuring spaces remain research ready.
• Serve as first point of contact for routine operational matters, service requests and fault reporting; track requests through to resolution or escalation.
• Conduct routine floor checks and follow checklists, reports irregularities and escalates risks promptly.
• Assist with onboarding, local orientation, equipment familiarisation and operational briefings.
• Monitor stock levels and replenish consumables and operational resources.
• Coordinate floor-level collection and distribution of glassware and items to central washing or sterilisation services.
• Provide first-line response to basic equipment or infrastructure faults following training; escalate as needed.
• Maintain accurate equipment and asset records and support relocation, disposal and replacement activities.
• Follow laboratory safety, biosafety, chemical safety, waste and emergency response procedures.
