Job summary

NatSteel Holdings Pte Ltd is seeking a QC Laboratory Technician to inspect and test downstream products and imported steel products, ensuring compliance with set specifications. You will conduct chemical analyses, prepare samples, and accurately record results in MES and DigiSteel systems.

This role requires willingness to perform site visits island-wide, operate lab equipment, and adhere to safety rules in a heavy metal environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in Quality Control or laboratory testing is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection and testing of downstream products and imported steel products.
• Perform chemical analysis to determine composition and ensure standards compliance.
• Communicate non-conformance results to Production, International Trade, Superintendent, Supervisor, or Engineer for investigation and corrective action.
• Enter and maintain final testing results accurately in MES and DigiSteel systems.
• Prepare test samples by cutting and preparing specimens to required dimensions.
• Conduct site visits to collect samples island-wide when required.
• Ensure testing activities follow procedures, quality requirements and safety regulations.
• Maintain housekeeping and keep testing equipment and work areas clean and in good condition.

About the role

You will be responsible for the inspection and testing of downstream products, including cold-rolled wire, deformed bar in coil (DBIC), welded wire mesh/fabric, couplers, and headed bars, as well as imported steel products including imported bars, coils, and wire rods.

Key responsibilities

• Perform inspection and testing of downstream products and imported steel products
• Perform chemical analysis to determine the chemical composition of steel products and ensure compliance with applicable standards and specifications
• Communicate non-conformance results to the relevant Production team, International Trade team, Superintendent, Supervisor, or Engineer for further investigation and corrective action
• Enter and maintain final testing results accurately in the MES and HMI DigiSteel computer systems
• Perform sample preparation activities, including cutting and preparing test specimens to the required dimensions from raw materials
• Conduct site visits to collect samples from various locations island-wide when required
• Ensure all testing activities are carried out in accordance with relevant testing procedures, quality requirements, and safety regulations
• Maintain proper housekeeping and ensure testing equipment and work areas are kept clean, safe, and in good working condition

About you

• ITE qualification or equivalent; SPM/STPM or equivalent qualifications will also be considered
• Previous experience in Quality Control (QC), laboratory testing, or a related field is preferred
• Experience in operating laboratory or material testing equipment will be an added advantageWilling to work rotating shifts, including shift work where required
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office applications
• Able to work in a heavy metal industrial environment, including areas that may be hot and noisy
• Able to perform manual tasks and willing to travel island-wide for sample collection when required
• Class 3 driving licence is preferred
• Good communication skills, responsible attitude, and ability to work independently as well as in a team
