Job summary

LIGHTVERSE PTE. LTD. in Singapore is seeking a knowledgeable sommelier to recommend wines based on guests' preferences, dining choices, and menu selections.

You will provide professional wine service, educate guests on wine regions and varieties, and work with the culinary team to develop pairing suggestions while maintaining high standards of service. Working location is Central; 44 hours per week and weekend/public holiday shifts are required.

Qualifications

• Certification in wine/beverage service preferred (WSET 1–3).
• Basic knowledge of wine regions and grape varieties.
• Experience in fine dining or luxury hospitality.
• Strong communication and upselling abilities.
• Experience serving drinks in semi-fine dining environment.
• Willingness to work weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Recommend wines based on guests’ preferences, dining choices, and menu selections.
• Provide professional wine service in accordance with etiquette and service standards.
• Educate guests on wine characteristics, regions, grape varieties, and suitable food pairings.
• Assist in managing and updating the restaurant’s wine list to reflect current offerings.
• Support wine inventory management, stock rotation, and cellar organisation.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and preservation of wines to maintain product quality.
• Collaborate with the culinary team to develop wine pairing recommendations for seasonal menus and special dishes.
• Assist in organising wine promotions, tastings, and special dining events.
• Monitor wine stock levels and communicate replenishment needs to management.
• Maintain excellent guest service standards through strong wine knowledge and personalised recommendations.

Requirements

• Preferred to have a WSET Level 1 / Level 2 / Level 3 certification or similar basic qualification in wine or beverage service.
• Basic knowledge of Wine regions, grape varieties, and food pairing
• Previous experience in fine dining, luxury hotels, or premium restaurants
• Strong communication and upselling skills
• Ability to engage guests with enthusiasm and professionalism, providing clear explanations and attentive service.
• Some experience in food and beverage or beverage service is preferred, with familiarity in serving drinks in a semi-fine dining environment
• Willingness to work on weekends, and public holidays as required.
