Description
We are looking for a motivated IT student to join our team and gain hands‑on experience across IT infrastructure, cloud operations, networking, cybersecurity, monitoring, and automation. You will work alongside our technical team to support real-world IT environments, troubleshoot infrastructure issues, strengthen security practices, and improve operational efficiency through automation and modern technologies.
Key Responsibilities
1.Infrastructure& Cloud Operations
- Administer Windows and Linux servers: provisioning, patching, user and permission management, service configuration and performance tuning.
- Manage virtualised workloads on VMware, Hyper‑V or KVM, including snapshots, templates and resource allocation.
- Assist with cloud administration across AWS, Azure or Microsoft 365 — identity and access configuration, storage and network settings, cost and utilisation review.
2.Network & Wireless Engineering
- Configure and troubleshoot switches, routers and firewalls: VLAN segmentation, routing, access control lists, NAT and QoS.
- Maintain and troubleshoot enterprise wireless networks, including controller configuration, WPA2/WPA3-Enterprise authentication, guest isolation and site survey work.
3.Security Operations & Vulnerability Management
- Assist with vulnerability assessment activities in our internal lab or under documented client authorisation: scanning, triaging findings by exploitability and business impact, tracking remediation to closure.
- Apply hardening baselines (CIS Benchmarks, vendor hardening guides) and verify compliance.
4.Monitoring, Automation & Tooling
- Operate and tune the monitoring stack; reduce alert noise through threshold tuning and rule refinement.
- Build automation in Python or PowerShell — for example, integrating monitoring alerts with the ticketing system via REST APIs, automating routine health reports, or scripting provisioning workflows.
5.Emerging Technology Research
- For students with relevant interest, we run a research track on AI and LLM application security: prompt injection defences, tool‑call governance, agent runtime controls, and evaluation of security tooling against frameworks such as the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications and MITRE ATLAS.
- Output takes the form of an evaluation write‑up, architecture diagrams and a tooling comparison the team can act on.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Higher Nitec or Diploma in IT Systems & Networks, Information Systems, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of IT infrastructure, computer networks, operating systems, or cybersecurity concepts.
- Familiarity with Windows and/or Linux environments is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, firewalls, or wireless networks is an advantage.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
What you will gain from this internship
- Hands‑on experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure, networks, cloud environments, and cybersecurity operations.
- Practical exposure to Windows and Linux administration, virtualisation, cloud platforms, and enterprise networking.
- Experience with vulnerability assessment, security hardening, monitoring, and incident prevention.
- Experience working on real‑life projects alongside experienced engineers and technical teams.
