Job summary

OPTIMUM SOLUTIONS (SINGAPORE) PTE LTD is seeking a senior storage and backup engineer to plan, implement and manage enterprise storage and backup environments in Singapore. You will work on migrations, re-platforming, DR testing, and automation to improve reliability and efficiency across environments.

You will collaborate with server, network, database, and application teams to ensure seamless transitions while maintaining security baselines and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• Degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years in storage engineering or infrastructure operations.
• Hands-on with enterprise storage platforms (Hitachi, NetApp, Dell EMC, Pure, HPE).
• Experience with storage migrations and consolidation projects.
• Familiarity with SAN, NAS, iSCSI, NFS and CIFS.

What You Will Do

• You will support the planning and execution of storage and backup implementation projects, including new deployments, capacity expansions, and storage migrations, ensuring continuity of operations across environments throughout each transition. As part of infrastructure modernization and re-platforming exercises, you will help design and implement storage and backup solutions that are robust, well-tested, and ready to support production workloads from day one.
• You will also contribute to storage lift-and-shift and data migration projects, working to ensure that data is migrated accurately, securely, and with minimal disruption to operational stability at every stage of the process. This includes supporting the decommissioning of legacy storage systems and the on boarding of new platforms.
• A key part of your responsibilities will be supporting the design, implementation, and ongoing management of backup infrastructure. This includes configuring and maintaining backup policies,schedules, and retention settings across enterprise backup platforms, ensuring that backup jobs complete successfully and that recovery objectives are consistently met. You will support backup restoration exercises and disaster recovery testing, validating that data can be recovered reliably within defined recovery time and recovery point objectives. You will also assist in the migration and re-platforming of backup workloads, including the transition from legacy backup solutions to modern platforms, ensuring continuity of data protection throughout each phase of the migration.
• A key part of your project responsibilities will be ensuring that all storage and backup implementations meet the required security and compliance standards. You will be expected to develop and maintain security baseline documentation for storage and backup systems, defining and enforcing hardening configurations in line with organizational and regulatory requirements. You will prepare comprehensive test case documentation — covering functional, performance, and security validation — and ensure that all testing outcomes are properly recorded and signed off before systems are transitioned to production. You will work closely with security and compliance teams to ensure that storage and backup projects adhere to relevant frameworks and audit requirements throughout the project life cycle.
• Beyond project delivery, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of storage and backup infrastructure — monitoring capacity and performance, responding to incidents, carrying out routine maintenance, and ensuring that systems remain healthy and available. You will identify and implement automation opportunities across storage and backup operations, leveraging scripting and AI-assisted tooling to reduce manual effort, improve reliability, and surface operational insights more efficiently.
• Collaboration is central to this role. You will work closely with cross-functional teams — including server, network, database,and application teams — to support emerging infrastructure projects, balancing timely delivery with ongoing operational commitments. You will also be expected to document processes, procedures, and knowledge bases clearly and thoroughly,strengthening the team's collective capabilities and supporting continuity of service.

Qualifications and Experience

• The ideal candidate holds a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Candidates with equivalent practical experience and a strong track record in infrastructure or operations environments will also be considered.
• You should have at least 5 years of experience in a storage engineering, infrastructure operations, or related role, with demonstrable hands-on experience in enterprise storage platforms such as Hitachi, NetApp, Dell EMC, Pure Storage, HPE, or equivalent. Prior involvement in storage migration projects — including data migrations, re-platforming exercises, or storage consolidation efforts — is highly desirable. Familiarity with storage protocols and technologies such as SAN, NAS, iSCSI, NFS, and CIFSis expected.
• Experience with enterprise backup platforms suchas Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, Veeam, Dell EMC NetWorker, or equivalent is highly desirable. Candidates with hands‑on experience in backup policy management, backup infrastructure migrations, and recovery validation exercises will be at a distinct advantage. Familiarity with backup concepts including deduplication, replication, snapshot management, and offsite or cloud-based backup targets would be beneficial.
• Experience in preparing security baseline documentation, test case documentation, and supporting compliance or audit processes for infrastructure projects would be a strong advantage. Familiarity with security hardening standards and frameworks relevant to storage, backup,and infrastructure environments is similarly valued.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell is expected, as automation is a core part of this role. Experience applying AI or machine learning tools — for example, using large language models to assist with script generation, anomaly detection, log analysis, or operational runbook automation — would be a distinct advantage.Familiarity with cloud storage and backup platforms (such as AWS S3, AWS Backup, or equivalent) and an understanding of how storage and backup workloads are managed across on-premises and cloud environments would also be beneficial.Experience working in an ITIL-aligned or similarly structured operational environment is a plus.
