Job summary

AFL SINGAPORE PTE. LTD. in Singapore seeks a Design Engineer (Mechanical) to drive mechanical design and development for fiber-optic product lines.

You will translate user requirements into robust technical designs and collaborate with Quality, Product Management, and Manufacturing to ensure cost-effective, manufacturable solutions. The role requires strong CAD skills (Solidworks), GD&T proficiency, and experience with plastics/metal components.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Engineering required; Diploma considered with 7+ years’ experience.
• Conversant in English & Mandarin (spoken and written).
• Proficient in CAD software for 2D/3D drawing (Solidworks preferred).
• Familiar with Product & CAD Lifecycle Management tools (Solidworks PDM, PTC Windchill).
• Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
• Experience with plastics and metals design for manufacturing.
• Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA) knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical design and development of product functions and modules to meet requirements, quality and cost.
• Collaborate with Quality, Product Management, Solution Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain.
• Translate requirements into measurable design specifications.
• Support Sales with concept designs and presentations for pitches.
• Create test and verification plans for elements and parts.
• Interface with manufacturing and external suppliers for industrialization.
• Lead failure analysis and support quality improvement.
• Generate documentation including BOMs, drawings, and installation guides.
