Job De ion –Forward Deployed Engineer

Location: Singapore

Contract Term: 12 months (extendable)

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) is an embedded technical practitioner who operates at the intersection of business complexity and platform capability. Unlike a conventional engineer, the FDE does not wait for requirements to arrive fully formed — they go to the source, map the problem, and design the solution from first principles.

You will work directly with tenant teams to understand their operational workflows, translate those into structured technical designs, and build and deploy AI-driven automations, agentic solutions, and platform integrations that create measurable outcomes.

This role demands equal fluency in business process design and technical delivery. You are as comfortable facilitating a workflow discovery session with a non-technical stakeholder as you are configuring a cloud pipeline or designing an LLM agent orchestration flow. You close the gap between what the business needs and what the platform can deliver.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Business Process Mapping & Discovery

• Facilitate structured discovery sessions with tenant teams to surface operational pain points, manual workflows, and automation opportunities
• Translate unstructured business requirements into process maps, workflow diagrams, and solution blueprints using methodologies such as BPMN and value stream mapping
• Document as-is and to-be states with sufficient clarity for both business sign-off and technical implementation

Agent & Workflow Design

• Design end-to-end agentic workflows — defining triggers, decision logic, tool use, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and failure handling — before a line of code is written
• Architect AI agent solutions using in-boundary models, ensuring all data and inference remains within the classified environment
• Evaluate where automation adds value vs. where human judgement is non-negotiable; design accordingly

Technical Implementation

• Build and deploy solutions on cloud-native infrastructure; work fluently within containerised environments and understand how applications are provisioned, scaled, and secured at the platform level
• Develop integrations between systems — APIs, event-driven triggers, workflow automations — with a clear understanding of data flow, error handling, and operational resilience
• Write production-quality code; build components that are maintainable, documented, and extensible by others beyond your tenure on the project
• Operate within restricted or air-gapped network environments; understand the security constraints that govern what can be built, where data can move, and how AI services must be scoped
• Translate your own solution designs into working implementations without requiring a separate development team to execute on your behalf

Stakeholder Engagement & Delivery

• Present solution designs to both technical leads and business owners; communicate trade-offs clearly without hiding behind technical language
• Manage delivery of your own workstream from discovery through to deployment and handover
• Produce documentation that enables tenants to operate and extend solutions independently

WHAT YOU BRING

Essential — Eligibility

• Singapore Citizen
• Must be able to obtain and maintain MSD CAT 1 security clearance

Essential — Technical

• Cloud infrastructure fundamentals — able to provision, configure, and troubleshoot cloud resources; understands networking, IAM, and compute concepts regardless of provider
• Containerisation and orchestration — working knowledge of how containerised workloads are deployed and managed in enterprise environments
• Programming proficiency in at least one backend language (Python preferred); able to write code that goes to production, not just proof-of-concept
• DevSecOps practice — version control, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code as standard working habits, not afterthoughts
• LLM application development fundamentals — understands how to scope, build, and constrain AI-driven workflows; knows the difference between what a model should decide and what it should not

Essential — Business & Process

• Ability to independently run process discovery and requirements elicitation sessions with non-technical stakeholders
• Proficiency in process and workflow documentation — BPMN, swim-lane diagrams, data flow diagrams, or equivalent
• Experience mapping as-is processes and designing to-be states with clear, justified change rationale
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to produce artefacts that serve as both business sign-off and technical spec

• Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where requirements are discovered, not handed over
• Ownership orientation — you drive your workstream to completion without needing to be managed
• Security-conscious by default; understands the implications of working in a classified or restricted-data environment

ADVANTAGEOUS

• Prior experience in a government, defence, or public sector IT environment in Singapore
• Prior exposure to classified or restricted-data environments
• Experience with service management platforms (e.g. ITSM) and understanding of ITIL processes
• Knowledge of AI safety and governance practices relevant to in-boundary AI deployment
• Familiarity with platform engineering concepts — developer portals, self-service provisioning, golden path templates
• Sound in Technical Principals for designs
• Good communication skills – able to share details and concepts depending on type of audiences
