• Strong communication and stakeholder mgmt skills are required.
• Vendor management and procurement support experience is a plus.

Job description

The Engineer (Telecommunications) is responsible for delivering reliable, secure, and future-ready telecommunication services that support SGH's organisational needs. The role oversees enterprise PABX systems, IP telephony infrastructure, and related telecommunication services to ensure high availability, scalability, and service excellence.

Acting as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for telecommunications services, the incumbent provides technical advisory and supports infrastructure planning, service improvement initiatives, and technology adoption activities.

The role focuses primarily on vendor management, service governance, stakeholder engagement, procurement support, budgeting, and project coordination, while ensuring telecommunication solutions remain aligned with organisational objectives and technology standards.

Your job roles will include but not be limited to the following:

• Manage vendors responsible for the maintenance and support of PABX and IP telephony systems, ensuring service availability and performance.
• Monitor system performance and coordinate upgrades, patching, incident resolution, and failover activities.
• Coordinate with network, infrastructure, cloud, and cybersecurity teams to ensure secure and compliant telecommunication solutions.
• Provide technical input for new developments and technology initiatives, ensuring scalable, resilient, and future-ready solutions.
• Act as SME for telecommunication systems, providing technical advisory, evaluating solutions, and supporting technology planning.
• Monitor vendor performance against contractual obligations and service level agreements (SLAs), driving service improvements where required.
• Support procurement and contract management activities, including requirements gathering, technical evaluations, quotation reviews, and vendor assessments.
• Assist in budget planning, expenditure tracking, and lifecycle management of telecommunication systems and services.
• Prepare presentations, reports, business cases, and project updates for management and stakeholders.
• Manage and support telecommunication-related projects to ensure timely delivery and alignment with organisational objectives.

Job Requirements:

• Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Avaya, Cisco, NEC, Microsoft, AWS, Azure) are advantageous.
• Knowledge of IP telephony and VoIP technologies (e.g., SIP, H.323), with an understanding of network and firewall requirements.
• Experience supporting enterprise telecommunication infrastructure or services.
• Experience in vendor management, procurement, contract management, or project coordination will be advantageous.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience preparing presentations, reports or management papers will be advantageous.
• Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
• Proactive, adaptable, and interested in emerging technologies, including cloud-based communications solutions.
