Job summary

Avani Singapore is seeking an experienced and hands-on Director of Engineering to lead the hotel's Engineering team from pre-opening through ongoing operations. You will oversee all engineering, maintenance, and facilities, ensuring safety and reliability of assets and infrastructure.

As a key member of the hotel leadership team, you will drive excellence, manage budgets, and partner with the General Manager to deliver exceptional guest experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Facilities Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of engineering leadership experience in international hotels or large hospitality environments.
• Pre-opening hotel experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire & life safety systems, ELV, and BMS.
• Proven experience managing capital projects, renovations, and contractor relationships.
• Fluent in English.
• Knowledge of Singapore building regulations, safety requirements, and statutory compliance frameworks would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead all engineering pre-opening activities, from testing and commissioning through to asset handover, team mobilization, and operational readiness, ensuring a successful hotel opening.
• Ensure compliance with brand standards, safety requirements, and local regulatory obligations
• Oversee all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire & life safety, generators, ELV, and BMS
• Develop preventive maintenance programs, asset management plans, and engineering SOPs
• Manage engineering budgets, capital projects, and contractor relationships
• Drive operational efficiency and reliability across all technical areas of the hotel
• Support smart building technologies and hotel systems to enhance operational efficiency and guest experience.
• Recruit, develop, and lead a high‑performing Engineering team
• Partner with the General Manager and leadership team to support exceptional guest experiences

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Facilities Engineering, or a related field


• 7+ years of engineering leadership experience in international hotels or large hospitality environments


• Previous experience as a Director of Engineering, Chief Engineer, or equivalent leadership role


• Pre‑opening hotel experience is strongly preferred


• Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire & life safety systems, ELV, and BMS


• Proven experience managing capital projects, renovations, and contractor relationships


• Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, cost control, and asset management


• Experience working with owners, consultants, contractors, and local authorities throughout hotel development, renovation, or pre‑opening projects


• Excellent leadership, project management, and problem‑solving skills


• Fluent in English


• Knowledge of Singapore building regulations, safety requirements, and statutory compliance frameworks would be advantageous


• Previous engineering leadership experience within Singapore hospitality would be advantageous
