Job summary

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) seeks a leader to drive enterprise-wide Data Governance and AI governance initiatives. You will shape governance framework, risk management, and data quality improvements across business lines, partnering with the Enterprise Chief Data Office.

Ideal candidates bring 8–10 years in data governance within financial services, strong BCBS 239 experience, and proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through complex transformations.

Qualifications

• 8-10 years of progressive experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Risk, or Process Engineering within banking/financial services.
• Proven expertise in BCBS 239 regulatory requirements and leading large-scale implementations.
• Strong knowledge of Data Governance frameworks, operating models, and regulatory practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise-wide BCBS 239 governance, adoption roadmaps, metrics and sustainable control mechanisms across all business lines.
• Define and advance Data Governance, Data Risk and Data Control standards with the Enterprise Chief Data Office.
• Build and lead high-performing Data Governance teams and provide strategic guidance to major transformation programmes.
• Establish AI governance framework, policies, controls, and lifecycle oversight for responsible AI use.
• Drive stakeholder engagement across functions to align strategic data initiatives with regulatory expectations.
