Job summary

MTC Consulting Pte Ltd invites a Senior Mechanical Design Lead to drive concept development and detailed mechanical design for state-of-the-art facilities in Singapore. You will coordinate with Electrical, Civil & Structural, Architectural and Process teams to deliver integrated solutions for semiconductor, data centre and related environments.

You will mentor engineers, review P&IDs and layouts, and support client meetings and value-engineering activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor/Master level Mechanical Engineering knowledge, with senior leadership experience.
• Proven ability to lead fast-track concept development and complex mechanical design.
• Strong communication with multidisciplinary stakeholders and clients.
• Experience coordinating across Mechanical, Electrical, CSA interfaces.
• Willingness to travel regionally/global as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead concept development and mechanical design for large, fast-track projects in high-tech environments.
• Lead business development, proposals, tenders and value engineering for major projects.
• Develop and review conceptual mechanical solutions (HVAC, cleanrooms, process exhaust, water systems, fire protection, etc.).
• Provide technical oversight across MEP and CSA disciplines and coordinate teams.
• Review system concepts: redundancy, equipment, routing, space, schematics, P&IDs, layouts.
• Attend client meetings and present design solutions; act as senior mechanical focal point in design reviews.
• Identify value-engineering opportunities balancing technical, constructability, schedule and budget.
• Support estimating with BOMs, package definitions, and scope during programming and tender stages.
• Review Mechanical design documents across programming, concept, detailed and construction stages.
• Provide site technical support during construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
• Collaborate with global teams to develop best practices and future technologies.
• Support off-site/modular manufacturing concepts and integration into design.
• Lead, mentor and develop engineering staff while driving quality and processes.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Lead concept development and Mechanical design for large and complex, fast-track projects within high-tech / advanced technology facilities, including semiconductor, photovoltaic, battery and flat panel display environments.
• Lead and support front-end business development, concept design, technical proposals, tenders and value engineering activities for major projects.
• Develop and review conceptual Mechanical solutions covering systems such as HVAC, cleanroom make-up air and air recirculation, process exhaust, chilled and hot water, process cooling water, compressed dry air, vacuum, fire protection and heat recovery.
• Provide broad technical oversight across MEP and CSA disciplines, ensuring effective coordination and communication between Mechanical, Electrical, Civil & Structural, Architectural, Process and other engineering teams.
• Review system concepts including redundancy, equipment selection, distribution and routing, space allocation, system schematics, P&IDs, layouts and elevations.
• Attend client meetings, present design solutions and act as a senior technical focal point for Mechanical engineering during internal and external design reviews.
• Identify and develop value-engineering opportunities, balancing technical requirements, constructability, programme and client budget expectations.
• Support estimating teams with bill of materials, package definitions, technical scope development and cost inputs during programming, conceptual design and tender stages.
• Review and advise on Mechanical design documentation across programming, concept, detailed and construction design stages.
• Provide technical support to project teams during construction, testing, commissioning and handover, with testing & commissioning experience being advantageous.
• Work with global engineering teams and subject matter experts to develop best practices, alternative methodologies, standard designs and future technologies.
• Support the development of off-site / modular manufacturing solutions and their integration into project concept design.
• Lead, coach and mentor engineering staff, while driving quality, continuous improvement and robust engineering processes.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master's / Professional Engineer qualification is advantageous.
• 20+ years of design and construction experience, preferably in high-tech, semiconductor, data centre, pharmaceutical or other complex industrial environments.
• 10+ years in a senior/leadership role on fast-track projects.
• Strong understanding of Mechanical/MEP, Electrical and CSA interfaces; candidates do not need to be specialists in every discipline but must be able to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary stakeholders.
• Strong experience in conceptual design, design development, value engineering and technical coordination.
• Proven experience managing and mentoring multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
• Testing & commissioning experience is advantageous.
• Willingness to work with regional/global teams and travel when required.
