Job summary

Standard Chartered seeks a Director of AI Architecture to define and govern the Bank's enterprise AI platform. You will own the foundational technology stack enabling AI adoption at scale, including execution substrate, control plane, model serving, and data architecture.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in software engineering, platform architecture, data architecture, or distributed systems engineering.
• Proven experience designing enterprise platforms supporting multiple teams and domains.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, including state management, concurrency, resiliency, and failure recovery.
• Strong experience defining enterprise architecture standards, roadmaps, and governance in large federated organisations.
• Expertise in control plane architecture: identity, authorisation, policy enforcement, routing, auditability.
• Experience designing canonical data models, ontologies, semantic frameworks, knowledge graphs, RDF or property graphs.
• Experience architecting large-scale data platforms using lakehouse, object storage, graph DBs, vector stores, NoSQL.
• Strong understanding of AI platform engineering, model serving, LLM deployment, observability, governance.
• Experience with agentic systems, orchestration, durable execution, agent state management, tool integration.
• Experience operating in regulated environments with security, privacy, compliance, and risk considerations.
• Ability to influence technology strategy and drive-wide adoption.
• Degree in related field; banking/regulatory experience valuable.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the Bank's long-term AI platform strategy, architecture vision, and technology roadmap.
• Establish enterprise architecture standards, patterns, and reusable frameworks for AI platform adoption.
• Shape evolution of the AI ecosystem ensuring scalability, governance, and regulatory compliance.
• Advise senior executives on strategic AI platform investments and architectural decisions.
• Drive standardization while balancing innovation, operations, and risk management.
• Act as principal architect for the Bank's enterprise AI platform across domains.
• Define and govern platform interfaces, data contracts, and operational controls.
• Lead architecture reviews and (ADR) boards for AI initiatives.
• Collaborate with engineering, data, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and risk teams to deliver scalable AI services.
• Support adoption of AI capabilities via reusable platform services and reference architectures.
• Drive multi-provider AI model strategies optimizing performance and cost.
