Job description

Overview

Contract: 1 year (renewal basis)

Location: Ang Mo Kio

Salary: Up to $5,800 (depending on experience) plus a fixed $200 monthly shift allowance for rotating shifts.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM (standby required) or 12‑hour rotating shift (8 AM – 8 PM / 8 PM – 8 AM).

Responsibilities

• Daily health monitoring of the production database system and data integrity checks.
• Database migration and performance monitoring.
• Periodical production patch and upgrade management.
• Automation and monitoring of large‑file transfers for archiving.
• Collaborate with users and vendors to promptly resolve service‑level impacting issues and conduct root‑cause analysis.
• Enforce security standards for databases.
• Stay current on database technology advancements to identify opportunities for fine‑tuning and optimization of databases and related infrastructure.
• Database administration and management, including capacity planning, installation, backup, recovery, monitoring, performance optimizations, troubleshooting, hardware analysis, and security.
• Query optimization and tuning; analyze and troubleshoot interactions between databases, operating systems, and applications concerning performance and resource usage.
• Create database tables, set up indexes, define data constraints and views, and predict and resolve database system, storage, and application issues through trend analysis.
• Review existing software architecture and contribute to future architecture improvements for stability and maximum performance.
• Collect and analyze database performance information to identify and implement solutions for performance problems.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of DBA and operations experience with MS SQL Enterprise Server.
• Degree in IT or engineering‑related field.
• Willingness to work odd hours and be on standby when required.
• Proficient in Linux/UNIX shell scripting.
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies.
• Experience supporting database mirroring and failover clustering.
• Experience as an MySQL/MariaDB or MS SQL Database Administrator in a production environment.
• Management experience with MS SQL servers (2008, 2012, 2014, 2016).
• Strong understanding of database clustering techniques and operations.
• Prior cloud environment experience is an advantage.
• Ability to handle demanding service response and recovery turnaround.
• Ability to manage daily support tasks to meet stringent SLA requirements.
• Excellent scheduling, multitasking, and organizational skills.
• Meticulous, process‑oriented, and hard‑working attitude.
• Good communication skills in English (written and spoken).
• Good analytical skills and ability to collaborate on problem resolution.
• Preferably holds Microsoft or ITIL certifications.
• Dynamic, customer‑oriented, and experienced in a fast‑paced environment.
