We are seeking a responsible and detail-oriented Managed Services Data Centre Engineer to support day-to-day data centre operations. The role is responsible for monitoring data centre systems, responding to alerts and incidents, supporting physical access and security procedures, conducting basic infrastructure checks, and maintaining accurate equipment and asset records.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a mission-critical data centre environment, following established operational procedures and escalating technical or facility-related issues to the appropriate Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
Responsibilities
- Monitor data centre monitoring systems for alerts, alarms, and abnormal conditions.
- Identify potential operational issues and raise incident tickets in accordance with established procedures.
- Escalate technical alerts and incidents to the appropriate SMEs or support teams.
- Track incident tickets from initial reporting through resolution and closure.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, actions taken, escalations, and status updates.
- Follow established operational and escalation procedures to support continuous data centre operations.
2. Security & Access Control
- Follow established data centre physical access and security procedures.
- Verify and facilitate authorised visitor, contractor, and vendor access.
- Escort visitors and vendors within controlled data centre areas where required.
- Support physical security checks, including rack access and identification of unattended or unauthorized items.
- Maintain appropriate equipment movement and access records.
- Follow security policies and procedures when handling or providing access to customer equipment.
- Ensure vendor activities comply with required escort and access-control procedures.
- Conduct basic visual checks of the data centre environment.
- Identify and report abnormal facility conditions such as water or air-conditioning leaks, unusual temperature conditions, or other environmental concerns.
- Escalate facility-related issues to the appropriate facilities or technical support teams.
- Maintain awareness of conditions that could affect data centre availability, equipment, or operations.
4. Asset Management, Inventory & Documentation
- Register and document equipment entering, leaving, or moving within the data centre.
- Record equipment serial numbers and relevant hardware changes.
- Maintain and update asset and inventory records.
- Perform periodic hardware inventory checks and asset verification.
- Ensure operational documentation and records are accurate and kept up to date.
- Use Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, record keeping, and operational administration.
Requirements
- Diploma or Nitec qualification in Information Technology, Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 1–2 years of experience in data centre operations, IT operations, infrastructure support, NOC operations, technical support, or a similar environment is preferred.
- Experience with incident / ticket management systems and IT asset management would be advantageous.
- Responsible, dependable, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Able to work independently, self-motivated and diligent.
- Written and spoken language proficiency in English & Mandarin, as there is a requirement to handle Mandarin-speaking customers' technical enquiries and conduct troubleshooting based on customers' feedback.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when handling access control, equipment records, and asset verification.
- Able to communicate clearly with internal teams, SMEs, vendors, and customers.
- Able to follow procedures consistently in a controlled and security-sensitive environment.
- Comfortable working in 12-hour shift duty.
- Able to remain attentive and responsive during extended shift operations.
- Basic understanding of data centre operations and IT infrastructure.
- Basic knowledge of servers, network equipment, racks, cabling, and other common data centre hardware.
- Familiarity with monitoring systems, alarms, incident management, and ticketing processes.
- Understanding of physical security and controlled-access procedures in a data centre environment.
- Ability to perform basic equipment and asset verification.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), escalation procedures, and security requirements.
- Ability to identify abnormalities and escalated issues promptly to the appropriate technical teams.
