Job summary

UNITED MEDICARE PTE LTD is seeking a kitchen assistant to perform food preparation, cooking, and service for residents. You will help with washing, cutting, cooking, and assembling meals, ensuring safe storage and cleanliness in a busy kitchen environment.

The role requires a Basic Food Hygiene certificate and at least two years of relevant experience, with a 6-day workweek including weekends and public holidays. This is a hands-on position supporting resident nutrition and meal programs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of relevant kitchen experience.
• Ability to work a 6-day week, including weekends and public holidays.
• Basic Food Hygiene certificate is required.
• Ability to plan and prepare meals for residents and staff.

Responsibilities

• Wash, peel and cut vegetables and meats as directed before preparation or cooking.
• Cook soups, porridge and rice as required.
• Prepare fruits and light snacks as directed.
• Prepare foods for special or therapeutic diets for residents.
• Ensure foods are stored at correct temperatures.
• Cook all menu items and prepare breakfast and tea breaks for residents.
• Cook sufficient quantities for residents and staff; minimize waste via proper portioning and storage.
• Maintain overall cleanliness of the kitchen.
• Wash floors and wipe tables in food prep and storage areas; clean and maintain stoves and refrigerators.
• Assist in budget planning and resource justification with Senior/Lead.

Job description

JOB PURPOSE

Undertakes duties in food preparation, processing and distribution to residents.

Food Services Activities

• Wash Peel and cut vegetables, meats as directed before preparation or cooking.
• Cook soups as directed, cook porridge and rice when required.
• Prepare fruits, light snacks as directed.
• Preparation of foods which are to be served as part of special or therapeutic diets for residents.
• Ensure food are stored in the correct temperatures.
• Cooking of all menu items.
• Prepare breakfast and tea breaks for residents.
• Cook sufficient amounts of food for both residents and employees.
• Minimizes waste through proper control of portioning and storage of food items.
• Maintains overall cleanliness of kitchen.

Cleaning and sanitation responsibilities

• Wash floors in food preparation and storage areas as directed.
• Wipe down tables and working areas after food preparation activities.
• Clean and perform basic maintenance of stoves, work area etc.
• Clean and perform basic maintenance of refrigerator storage.
• Washing of cooking utensils when appropriate.
• Washing of residents' cutlery as directed.
• Dispose garbage from the food service area, ensure that garbage is held in covered containers.

Budget Operations

• Participate in the planning, management and justification of budget and resources in consultation together with Senior/Lead.

Occupational Health & Safety

• Observation of safety practices and policies by familiarising with the documented policies provided by the Management.
• Work together with the Senior/Lead Kitchen to report and address any safety risks at the workplace.

Others

• Order sufficient stock to ensure that food served to both residents and employees are of the right quality and quantity.
• Roster sufficient manpower to ensure all necessary tasks (receiving and storage, cooking, cleaning and maintenance) are completed daily.
