Roles / Responsibilities

The Coastal Engineer shall also be familiar with the design principles of multi-functional flood protection structures (to provide for community amenities), design-with-nature / hybrid measures (such as integrating seawalls with mangroves) and other innovative coastal protection strategies developed overseas; and responsible for carrying out the study and design of coastal protection measures including co-ordination, consultation and liaison with the relevant authorities to obtain all necessary statutory approvals.

Pre-requisites Of Coastal Engineer

• The Coastal Engineer shall preferably possess about 15 years of experience in coastal development projects (e.g. design of coastal structures such as sea walls, earth bunds, revetments etc.), preferably with experience in design and/or implementation of navigational locks and/or storm surge barrier.
• He or she shall possess at least a relevant university degree or any other qualification acceptable to the Board.
• He or she shall preferably be well versed in issues related to climate change, in particular regarding extreme rainfall, sea level rise and storm surges arising from climate change.
