Job summary

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) Singapore seeks a senior Data Governance leader to drive enterprise-wide governance, data quality and regulatory compliance. You will collaborate with business, technology, risk and compliance to translate requirements into scalable governance solutions.

The role requires 8–10 years in data governance or related fields within banking, with proven leadership of large programmes and measurable governance improvements aligned to BCBS 239.

Qualifications

• 8-10 years of progressive experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Risk, or Process Engineering within banking or financial services.
• Demonstrated expertise in BCBS 239 regulatory requirements and leading large-scale transformations.
• Strong knowledge of Data Governance frameworks, operating models, risk management, and regulatory practices.
• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams across multiple workstreams with delivery accountability.
• Excellent business analysis and problem-solving to translate regulatory needs into governance solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise-wide implementation and ongoing maturity of BCBS 239 governance across all business lines.
• Define, implement and enhance Data Governance, Data Risk and Data Control standards with the Enterprise Chief Data Office.
• Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for Data Governance initiatives and programme delivery.
• Build and lead high-performing Data Governance and Data Management teams.
• Advise on data-related risks from strategic decisions ensuring regulatory compliance and governance excellence.
• Drive stakeholder engagement with business, technology, risk and compliance to align on governance priorities.
