Job summary

FranklinWH Energy Storage Inc. seeks a Battery Management Software Expert to own the software architecture and core algorithms for residential energy-storage BMS.

You will drive SOC/SOH estimation, cell balancing, thermal control, safety protection, and field stability across multi-cell packs and hardware interfaces. You will collaborate with hardware, test and system teams, produce design specs and validation reports, and ensure compliance with international safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or above in automation, electrical engineering, new energy, embedded software, or related discipline.
• Expertise in lithium-ion BMS principles and SOC, SOH, cell-balancing, thermal-management, fault-protection algorithms.
• Proficiency in embedded C, familiarity with CAN and RS485, and BMS hardware/software integration.
• Knowledge of safety standards for energy storage batteries. BMS mass-production experience preferred.
• Able to read battery safety standards, and collaborate in English on international projects.
• Experience in algorithm calibration and data analysis across different cell platforms.
• Experience in fault diagnosis or failure-mode analysis is preferred.

Responsibilities

About the Role

This role owns the software architecture and core algorithms of the battery management system for residential energy storage, including battery-state estimation, safety protection, thermal management, service life, and field stability.

Key Responsibilities

1.Own the software architecture, feature development, algorithm iteration, and implementation validation of BMS solutions for lithium-ion batteries used in residential energy storage.

2.Develop and optimize core algorithms for SOC and SOH estimation, cell balancing, thermal management, fault diagnosis, and protection against overcharge, over-discharge, overtemperature, and short circuit to improve safety, service life, and stability.

3.Optimize BMS control strategies for residential energy storage applications, including grid-connected and off-grid transition conditions.

4.Monitor cell technology developments, continuously improve BMS algorithms, and resolve battery operating issues arising in mass production and field applications.

5.Produce BMS software design specifications, algorithm documents, and test reports, and ensure compliance with applicable international safety standards.

6.Develop BMS algorithm calibration and validation plans covering different cells, temperatures, aging states, charge and discharge rates, and operating conditions.

7.Establish diagnostic-data, fault-code, and log-analysis methods to accelerate resolution of production and field issues.

8.Work with cell, battery pack, hardware, test, and system teams to define BMS interfaces, protection thresholds, and exception-handling strategies.

Requirements

9.Bachelor's degree or above in automation, electrical engineering, new energy, embedded software, or a related discipline. At least 10 years of BMS software development experience for energy storage systems.

10.Expertise in the core principles of lithium-ion battery management systems and in the development of SOC, SOH, cell-balancing, thermal-management, and fault-protection algorithms.

11.Proficiency in embedded C, familiarity with CAN and RS485 communications, and the ability to perform BMS hardware and software integration and troubleshooting.

12.Knowledge of lithium-ion battery electrochemistry and battery pack design, and familiarity with applicable international safety standards for energy storage batteries. BMS mass-production experience is preferred.

13.Able to read battery safety standards, prepare technical documents, and participate in international research and development collaboration in English.

14.Experience in algorithm calibration, data analysis, and adaptation across different cell platforms.

15.Experience in functional safety analysis, fault diagnosis, or battery failure-mode analysis is preferred.
