Job summary

calibr:e in Singapore is seeking entrepreneurial Base Metals Traders to manage a dedicated physical book, sourcing base metal ores and concentrates, and building upstream relationships with miners and refiners.

You will originate supply streams, secure sales channels, optimize margins, and negotiate complex contracts while navigating international mining regulations; candidates should have 5+ years' physical trading experience and a proven P&L track record.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Economics, Finance, Engineering or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 5+ years of physical trading experience, preferably in base (non-ferrous) metals, ores, and/or concentrates.
  • Open to min. 8+ years of paper trading experience in precious metals, or iron ore with book ownership.
  • Proven track record of delivering positive P&L and managing commercial volume targets for procurement and sales.
  • Demonstrated capability to independently own and manage physical trading book is highly desirable.
  • Good grasp of commercial processing economics, including TC/RCs, quality assays, impurity penalties, and freight differentials.
  • Practical working knowledge of structured trade finance instruments, trade documentation flows, letters of credit (L/Cs), and prepayments.

Responsibilities

  • Originate and secure primary supply streams of base metal ores and concentrates through long-term mine off-take agreements.
  • Secure profitable sales channels, offtake allocations, and term delivery contracts with global smelters and refiners.
  • Optimize overall margins by capitalizing on global supply-demand imbalances, TC/RC structures, regional premium variances, and smelter capacity constraints.
  • Lead the negotiation and structuring of complex commercial terms, final purchase/sales contracts, and specific pricing formulas.
  • Cultivate and expand a robust global network of miners, producers, smelters, and refiners through regular targeted market visits to capture new commercial partnerships.
  • Monitor and analyze global market fundamentals, physical trade flows, warehouse inventory movements, and macroeconomic trends to identify new opportunities.

The Opportunity

We are currently managing multiple active openings for Base Metals Trader on behalf of prominent international commodity merchants based in Singapore. Our clients are well-capitalized, Chinese-owned trading organizations with extensive global supply networks, robust financial backing, and clear mandates to establish new capabilities and accelerate the growth of their industrial metals books across both existing and emerging markets.

To support these commercial strategies, we are seeking entrepreneurial, high-performing Base Metals Traders specializing in ores and concentrates. Successful candidates will take full ownership of managing a dedicated physical book independently, leveraging a deep, proven origination track record. These roles requires trading professionals who can seamlessly navigate the seamlessly navigate international mining regulations, secure upstream producer relationships, and optimize global downstream distribution networks.
