Job summary

Sherman Mineral Trading Pte. Ltd. invites a motivated Junior Trader to join our commodities trading team in Singapore. You will support negotiations, manage end-to-end trade operations, and ensure compliance across cycles, working closely with buyers, suppliers and shipping partners.

The role requires a Diploma/Bachelor’s in commerce or related field, 3–5 years in commodities trading, and familiarity with Letters of Credit. Mandarin is a plus for cross-border coordination.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in commodities trading or related industries.
• Familiar with trade finance tools like Letters of Credit.
• Strong understanding of international trade operations and regulations.
• Attention to detail, organized and independent.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and trade documentation systems.
• English fluency; Mandarin preferred for liaising with Chinese-speaking counterparts.

Responsibilities

• Trade & Market Analysis: interact with traders, assist negotiations, monitor market trends, build relationships with buyers and suppliers.
• Operations & Logistics: prepare trade docs (B/L, COO, COA, invoices); coordinate with shipping agents and customers; track shipments.
• Reporting & Record Maintenance: maintain trade records and generate monthly reports for stakeholders.
• Financial & Documentation Management: validate supplier invoices, assist AP/AR with finance, archive documents.
• Trade Compliance & Risk Management: prepare LC and trade finance docs; coordinate with banks; ensure compliance with laws.

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and commercially minded Junior Trader to join our commodities trading team and support our growing trading activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving trade negotiations, managing operations, and ensuring compliance across end-to-end trading cycles.

Position: Junior Trader (Commodities Trading)

Location: Central area

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Key Responsibilities

1. Trade & Market Analysis

   • Interact with commodity traders and assist in negotiations between sellers and buyers
   • Monitor and analyze market trends and pricing movements
   • Negotiate and finalize commodity purchases at competitive prices
   • Build and maintain strong relationships with buyers and suppliers
   • Stay updated on geopolitical and economic trends affecting commodity markets
   • Source new suppliers and expand supplier base

2. Operations & Logistics

   • Prepare and manage trade documentation (B/L, COO, COA, invoices, etc.)
   • Communicate with shipping agents, customers, and suppliers on vessel scheduling
   • Track shipments and ensure timely cargo movement
   • Monitor trade document accuracy and resolve discrepancies
   • Ensure compliance with international trade laws and customs regulations

3. Reporting & Record Maintenance

   • Maintain records of trades and shipment documentation
   • Generate monthly reports on trading performance and market trends
   • Ensure timely submission of updates to internal stakeholders

4. Financial & Documentation Management

   • Validate supplier/vendor invoice details and send customer invoices
   • Liaise with finance/treasury for AP and AR coordination
   • Ensure documentation is properly archived (electronic and hard copy)

5. Trade Compliance & Risk Management

   • Prepare and monitor L/C and trade finance documents
   • Review Letters of Credit and coordinate with banks/partners
   • Mitigate risks by ensuring accuracy of trade terms and documentation
   • Archive transaction flows and prepare compliance reports

Requirements
