Job summary

Manus AI is seeking an experienced backend engineer to own user-facing features end to end, from requirements and design to frontend/backend development, testing, rollout, and continuous iteration.

You will design and implement backend services and APIs, ensure reliability and scalability, and push AI-native capabilities with Agent and LLM adoption. The role emphasizes performance, security, and observability in high-concurrency environments.

Qualifications

Job description

Own user-facing application features and backend services end to end, from understanding requirements and designing solutions to frontend and backend development, rollout, and ongoing iteration, and drive development in an AI-native way.

Responsibilities

• Independently own user-facing application features end to end, from understanding requirements and designing technical solutions to frontend and backend development, testing, rollout, and continuous iteration.
• Design and build backend services and APIs, and continuously improve data access, service communication, and engineering practices to keep systems reliable and scalable.
• Identify business opportunities with an AI-native mindset and drive the adoption of Agent and LLM capabilities in the product.
• Optimize performance and build stability for high-concurrency scenarios, and strengthen system security and observability.

Requirements

• Solid computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and system design; a CS-related degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience developing backend applications and delivering to production, using one of Go, Python, Node.js, or a similar stack to build services, with strong attention to code quality and engineering practices.
• Familiarity with Protocol Buffers and common RPC frameworks, and a good understanding of service communication, API design, and error handling.
• Familiarity with data storage and caching technologies such as MySQL and Redis, an understanding of when to use relational and non-relational databases, and hands‑on experience with data modeling, index design, transaction handling, and performance tuning.
• Understanding of system design principles for high-concurrency scenarios and typical uses of message queues, with the ability to apply caching, asynchronous processing, concurrency control, and rate limiting appropriately.
• Familiarity with containerized deployment and working knowledge of orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, with the ability to take part in deploying, running, and troubleshooting services.
• Familiarity with Agent development and LLM application workflows, with the ability to use AI tools effectively and verify the quality of their output.
• Basic testing and production troubleshooting skills, with the ability to locate issues using logs and metrics and drive them to resolution.
• Ability to collaborate on technical work in Mandarin and to read, write and participate in day-to-day technical communication in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building distributed tracing, monitoring and alerting, or CI/CD systems.
• End-to‑end experience taking a user‑facing AI product from development to launch.
• Open‑source projects, personal technical projects, or a technical blog.
