Job summary

SOUTH BEACH INTERNATIONAL HOTEL MANAGEMENT PTE. LTD. is seeking an Assistant Director of Engineering to oversee and optimise the engineering operations across a luxury hotel portfolio in Singapore.

You will lead maintenance, safety, and energy initiatives to ensure peak asset performance and guest comfort. You will manage a diverse team, coordinate with Rooms, F&B, and Events, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring regulatory compliance with local standards and Marriott-aligned

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field).
• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in hotel engineering or facilities management, with management & supervisory experience.
• Experience in luxury or large-scale hotel operations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily engineering operations, ensuring all building systems operate efficiently and safely.
• Manage the preventive maintenance programme to minimise downtime and extend asset lifecycle.
• Ensure proper maintenance of guest rooms, public areas, event spaces, back-of-house facilities, and outdoor areas.
• Supervise and prioritise work orders, ensuring timely and quality completion.
• Act as the engineering lead in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
• Ensure full compliance with local regulations and standards (BCA, SCDF, MOM, NEA) and maintain certifications.
• Drive energy efficiency, sustainability initiatives, and lifecycle planning for major equipment.
• Collaborate with Rooms, F&B, and Events teams to support high-profile functions.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Engineering supports the Director of Engineering in overseeing the operation, maintenance, and sustainability of all hotel facilities, ensuring optimal performance, safety, regulatory compliance, and exceptional guest experience.

This role is responsible for the efficient management of engineering operations across a large, complex luxury property comprising heritage and modern structures, multiple event venues, food &beverage outlets, and guest facilities.

The position ensures compliance with Singapore regulatory requirements while driving asset protection, energy efficiency, and continuous improvement aligned with JW Marriott brand standards.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education& Experience

• Diploma or Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field).
• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in hotel engineering or facilities management, with management & supervisory experience.
• Experience in luxury or large-scale hotel operations preferred.

Technical Expertise

• Strong knowledge of building systems: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and automation systems.
• Familiarity with Singapore regulatory requirements and compliance standards.
• Experience with preventive maintenance systems and engineering management tools.

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

1. Engineering Operations & Maintenance

• Oversee daily engineering operations, ensuring all building systems operate efficiently and safely, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, lifts, and life safety systems.
• Manage and monitor the preventive maintenance programme to minimise downtime and extend asset lifecycle.
• Ensure proper maintenance of guest rooms, public areas, event spaces, back-of-house facilities, and outdoor areas.
• Supervise and prioritise work orders, ensuring timely and quality completion.
• Act as the engineering lead in the absence of the Director of Engineering.

2.Regulatory Compliance & Safety (Singapore)

• Ensure full compliance with all local regulations and standards, including but not limited to:
• Building and Construction Authority (BCA)Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) Fire Code Ministry of Manpower (MOM) Workplace Safety National Environment Agency (NEA) requirements
• Maintain all statutory certifications, inspections, and records.
• Ensure fire life safety systems, emergency systems, and evacuation procedures are regularly tested and compliant.
• Promote a strong safety culture and enforce proper use of PPE and safe work practices.

3.Financial & Asset Management

• Assist in preparing and managing the engineering operating budget and capital expenditure (CAPEX) plans.
• Control costs through efficient resource allocation and preventive maintenance strategies.
• Participate in lifecycle planning for major equipment replacement and upgrades.
• Manage inventory, spare parts, and procurement processes effectively.

4.Project & Vendor Management

• Support planning and execution of refurbishment, renovation, and capital improvement projects.
• Coordinate and supervise contractors, consultants, and service providers to ensure compliance with specifications and timelines.
• Evaluate vendor performance and maintain effective supplier relationships.
• Introduce innovative solutions and technologies to improve operational efficiency and guest experience.

5.Sustainability & Energy Management

• Drive energy conservation and sustainability initiatives in line with Marriott ESG goals and BCA Green Mark standards.
• Monitor and optimise energy and water consumption across the property.
• Support implementation of smart building technologies and predictive maintenance systems where applicable.

6. Guest Experience & Service Excellence

• Ensure all engineering services enhance the luxury guest experience with minimal disruption.
• Respond promptly to guest feedback and operational issues related to engineering.
• Collaborate with Rooms, F&B, and Events teams to support high-profile functions and large-scale events.
• Maintain high standards of presentation and functionality across all guest-facing areas.

7. Leadership & People Development

• Lead, coach, and develop the Engineering team to achieve operational excellence.
• Plan manpower deployment, work schedules, and training programs.
• Ensure team members are trained in safety procedures, emergency response, and technical skills.
