We are partnering with an established international hotel in Singapore to appoint an Assistant Chief Engineer.
*For internal usage/stakeholder manegement, Chinese language will be required.*
This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for maintaining the reliability, safety and efficiency of the hotel’s building systems. Working closely with the Director of Engineering, you will oversee daily maintenance operations, lead the engineering team and support sustainability, energy-management and capital improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities;
Engineering Operations & Maintenance
- Lead the daily activities of the Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance teams.
- Maintain the reliability of guest-room systems, public areas, back-of-house facilities and critical building infrastructure.
- Develop and track preventive maintenance schedules to minimise downtime and operational disruption.
- Monitor the Building Management System (BMS) and ensure that building services operate efficiently.
- Conduct regular inspections and identify equipment risks, safety concerns and improvement opportunities.
- Ensure that emergency systems—including generators, fire-protection equipment and emergency lighting—remain fully operational.
Energy Management & Sustainability
- Track electricity, water and gas consumption and recommend practical cost-saving measures.
- Drive energy-efficiency, water-conservation and waste-management initiatives.
- Support the hotel’s BCA Green Mark certification and ongoing environmental performance.
- Prepare management reports covering energy savings, sustainability results, audit findings and Green Mark progress.
- Promote sustainable operating practices across the engineering team and wider hotel operations.
Projects, Budget & Compliance
- Coordinate hotel improvement projects, equipment upgrades, A&A works and CAPEX programmes.
- Support project budgeting, cost estimation, technical evaluation and timeline planning.
- Manage engineering expenses, vendor performance and the procurement of technical and sustainable solutions.
- Liaise with contractors and regulatory authorities regarding workplace safety, fire safety, environmental standards and statutory compliance.
- Represent the Engineering Department during audits, inspections and relevant management meetings.
Team Leadership & Emergency Response
- Supervise, coach and develop Duty Engineers, Technicians and maintenance personnel.
- Coordinate manpower and priorities to support the hotel’s 24-hour operations.
- Respond decisively to emergencies such as power failures, fire alarms, water leaks and critical equipment breakdowns.
- Act as a key member of the hotel’s incident and crisis-response team.
- Deputise for the Director of Engineering when required.
Requirements;
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Approximately 5-7 years of experience in hotel engineering, building operations or facilities management.
- At least 2 years of supervisory or team-leadership experience.
- Sound knowledge of M&E systems, BMS, ACMV, preventive maintenance and energy management.
- Exposure to BCA Green Mark, sustainability programmes or environmental reporting would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of fire safety, workplace safety and Singapore statutory requirements.
- Experience managing contractors, budgets, equipment upgrades, CAPEX or A&A projects.
- Confident in handling operational emergencies and making decisions under pressure.
- Willing to work shifts, weekends and standby duty when required.
