Job summary

MINDEF in Singapore is seeking a defence research analyst to conduct in-depth research on defence developments in Asia-Pacific countries of interest. You will monitor policy shifts, assess their regional impact, and prepare concise reports for military leaders and stakeholders.

You should be able to work independently or within a team of analysts, communicate clearly, and deliver high-quality research products. Appointment will be commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

  • Education in International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies, SEA Studies, History or related field.
  • Experience in research and analysis is preferred.
  • Good command of English language and strong writing skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to think critically.
  • Comfortable to work independently or as part of a team of analysts.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on defence-related developments in identified countries-of-interest.
  • Monitor, analyse and identify changes in defence policies, priorities and collaborations.
  • Produce high-quality, original research reports and present findings to military leaders.
  • Monitor bilateral relations with militaries of countries-of-interest, design engagement touchpoints.

Job description

What the role is:

You conduct deep research and provide timely, accurate reports on defence-related developments in identified countries-of-interest in the Asia-Pacific region while assisting in developing plans to enhance bilateral relations with militaries of the countries-of-interest.

What you will be working on:
  • - Conduct research and analysis on defence-related developments in identified countries-of-interest, including their possible impact to the region- Monitor, analyse and identify changes in trajectories pertaining to defence policies, priorities and defence collaborations of countries-of-interest- Work independently or as team to produce high-quality, original research reports and present findings to military leaders and relevant stakeholders- Monitor bilateral relations with militaries of countries-of-interest, conceptualise plans to enhance relations and design engagement touchpointsChallenge(s)- Keeping pace with changes in defence and security landscape pertaining to countries-of-interest, including changes in their defence policies, priorities and collaborations- Synthesising and analysing information from various sources to form coherent and logical assessments on identified issues- Communicating and explaining developments and assessments to non-specialist stakeholders in clear and concise manner- Delivering high-quality research products
What we are looking for:
