Job summary

Nanyang Technological University’s Advanced Technology and AI Center (ATMRI) seeks a Research Engineer II to advance the Digital ATCO Assistant project. You will design AI-enabled applications, integrate LLMs, RAG, AI agents, and operational data sources, and deliver end-to-end prototypes for air traffic management.

Collaborating with domain experts and controllers, you will build backend services, APIs, and system connectors, implementing robust evaluation, logging, and deployment workflows.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required in a relevant field (CS/AI/SE/IS).
• At least 1 year of software engineering, systems integration or AI application delivery experience.
• Strong experience with Python, backend development, APIs, databases, and system integration.
• Experience building or integrating LLM apps, RAG systems, AI agents, or orchestration workflows.
• Ability to develop reliable end-to-end prototypes rather than standalone models.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Interest or experience in aviation, ATC, or safety-critical AI is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and integrate AI-enabled applications for the Digital ATCO Assistant project.
• Build end-to-end systems combining LLMs, RAG, AI agents, tool calling, workflow orchestration, and data sources.
• Integrate AI components with existing enterprise systems via APIs, databases, authentication, and messaging.
• Develop backend services, user interfaces, and connectors for prototypes and pilots.
• Implement evaluation, logging, monitoring, traceability, and feedback for AI-assisted workflows.
• Collaborate with domain experts and controllers to translate use cases into system requirements and tests.
• Support testing, demonstrations, technical docs, and deployments.
• Contribute to reports, proposals, publications, and collaborations with academic/industry/regulatory partners.
