Job summary

Nanyang Technological University’s ATMRI invites a Research Fellow to lead the Digital ATCO Assistant project, shaping the assistant’s knowledge, retrieval, reasoning, and orchestration with LLMs and multi-agent architectures.

You will develop tool calling, retrieval pipelines across AIPs, NOTAMs, and operational data, work with domain experts and engineers, and contribute to reports, proposals, and publications in a collaborative, safety-critical research environment.

Qualifications

• PhD in AI, Computer Science, ML, NLP or related discipline or MS with substantial research.
• 2–4 years hands-on experience with LLMs, Agentic AI, multi-agent architectures and prompt engineering.
• Experience with RAG, vector databases, semantic retrieval and knowledge representations.
• Strong Python skills; experience with PyTorch, modern LLM frameworks, APIs/microservices; evaluation of retrieval quality.
• Experience with LoRA/PEFT, in-context learning, Graph RAG or on-premise deployment is desirable.
• Good communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills; publications and safety-critical domain experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and lead Agentic AI and multi-agent architectures for task decomposition, planning, and orchestration.
• Develop tool calling and integration of tools, APIs, and knowledge services with robust error handling.
• Build retrieval agents and end-to-end RAG pipelines across AIPs, NOTAMs, and procedures.
• Design benchmarks to evaluate task performance, coordination, and factuality; reduce hallucinations.
• Collaborate with engineers and domain experts to expose capabilities via APIs/microservices for prototype deployment.
• Translate operational use cases into research requirements, datasets, and test scenarios.
• Contribute to technical reports, proposals, publications, and collaborations.
