Job summary

Kaisa in Uppsala is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and evolve scalable backend services and APIs. You’ll work with Product and Engineering to solve challenging problems, shape our technology, and push AI-enabled workflows into production.

You’ll mentor junior engineers, contribute to architectural decisions, and help the team stay focused on delivering value. The role is based in Uppsala with flexible collaboration across London, Uppsala, and Paris, and a modern tech stack

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend experience.
• Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Experience designing, building, and scaling distributed microservices and APIs.
• Experience working with AI agents and integrating LLM-based workflows into production systems.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Terraform, and automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Comfortable with SQL and NoSQL databases (MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis).
• Experience with Python and PHP is a plus.
• A degree in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning or similar is a plus but equivalent experience counts.

Responsibilities

You’ll have the opportunity to work hands‑on with modern backend technologies and AI, while contributing to the way we design, build, and improve our systems. What You'll Do

You’ll design, build, and evolve scalable backend services, APIs, and event-driven systems. You’ll contribute to architectural decisions, help improve the quality and scalability of our technology, and work with the team to address technical challenges and opportunities. You’ll also work closely with Product to turn business needs into technical solutions and help bring new ideas into production. A part of the role will be exploring and integrating AI capabilities, including LLMs and agentic workflows, as well as using AI tools to improve how we develop software. As a senior member of the team, you’ll also support and mentor other engineers, contribute to technical discussions, and help create a collaborative environment where the team can do great work.

What We're Looking For

You likely have 5+ years of professional backend experience, think carefully about architecture, and are genuinely curious about AI — while staying comfortable working across a broad range of domains and shifting priorities. More specifically:

• Backend Expertise: Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Architecture & Microservices: Experience designing, building, and scaling distributed microservices and APIs.
• AI & LLMs: Experience working with AI agents and integrating LLM-based workflows into production systems.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with AWS, Terraform, and automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Database Management: Comfortable working with both SQL and NoSQL databases, such as MySQL, DynamoDB, and Redis.
• AI Development Tools: Experience using AI development tools to support and improve everyday engineering workflows.
• Experience with Python and PHP is considered a plus.
• A degree in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning or similar is a plus but equivalent experience counts just as much.
