Job summary

PLAYipp AB is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to own features end-to-end—from PRD to production—embedding AI capabilities into our digital signage platform. You will be accountable for what ships, working with a team, chief architect, and Head of AI for support.

The role emphasizes building AI into the product and enabling internal AI tooling, with ownership of architecture and testing. Hybrid work in Gävle is expected three days per week with collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience in full-stack development.
• Practical experience building AI/LLM-powered features in a production product.
• Strong expertise in TypeScript, React, and Node.js with accountability for AI-generated code.
• Deep understanding of modern web application architecture, including RESTful APIs.
• Proficient with relational databases (MySQL or similar).
• AI-directed development and ownership mindset.

We're looking for an Senior AI Engineer

Join us in transforming the digital signage landscape. PLAYipp, the leading Nordic digital signage company, is seeking a senior engineer to own features end-to-end — from PRD to Production — which increasingly include building AI capabilities directly into our product. At PLAYipp, we don't write code by hand — everything is built by directing AI coding tools (we use Claude Code), and you're fully accountable for what ships, however it was written. You'll be working in a Team, alongside Product and fellow Engineers — each of you carrying a bigger slice of the work than in a traditional setup, but never working alone.

Key role description

You own features end-to-end: front end, back end, testing, and the architecture decisions along the way. You're never on your own with this — your team, our chief architect, and our Head of AI are there to support you whenever you need it.

Beyond product features, you'll also help build AI into how the whole organization works — tools that let AI handle work that used to require an engineer.

What we expect from you

Building, Testing & Maintaining the Product

• Take requirements from PRD to finished, deployed feature.

• Write and maintain tests as part of building — quality is your responsibility.

• Ownership — you ship it, you're responsible for it in production.

• Think about scalability and architecture, together with our Chief Architect, as a natural part of building, not an afterthought.

Building AI Into the Product

• Build AI-powered capabilities into the PLAYipp product itself.

• Work with LLM APIs and related tooling to get these features to production, not just prototypes.

Internal AI Enablement

• Occasionally build internal tooling that helps the wider organization become more self-sufficient with AI — e.g. giving non-engineers direct, self-serve access to data that used to require an engineer.

• Bring in new AI tools and workflows as they prove useful, and keep pushing for more efficient ways to work with AI without compromising quality.

Team Collaboration & attitude

• Share knowledge — on architecture, testing, deployment, and AI tooling — through documentation and workshops.

• Help team members grow their technical skills, including AI-assisted development.

• Lead by example in communication, drive and creativity.

• Foster a collaborative, learning-oriented team culture.

Required Competencies

Technical Skills

• 7+ years of professional experience in full-stack development, with demonstrated progression in technical complexity and responsibility.

• Practical experience building AI/LLM-powered features in a production product.

• Strong expertise in TypeScript, React, and Node.js — enough to review, judge, and be fully accountable for AI-generated code. Even though AI writes it, you own every line and are the one who fixes it when it breaks.

• Deep understanding of modern web application architecture, including RESTful APIs.

• Proficient with relational databases (MySQL or similar), including schema design, query optimization, and data modeling.

• You shouldn't have been coding manually for some time; Claude Code experience specifically isn't required, but AI-directed development should already be how you work.

• Comfortable with ownership, not just writing code and passing it along.

• Nimble and adaptable — comfortable moving between product feature work and internal tooling/enablement work as priorities shift.

Location & Schedule

• Hybrid but primarily based, 3 days/week minimum, at PLAYipp HQ in central Gävle.

• Core collaboration hours for team synchronization.
