Job summary

Coherent Corp seeks a Software Test Development Engineer to design, build and maintain software for controlling optical testing instruments in an active R&D environment.

You will collaborate with Chip Design, Wafer Fabrication, Process Engineering and Operations to deliver automated test solutions for development and manufacturing.

We value strong OO programming skills (C#, C++, Java) and Python/MATLAB, with up to five years of relevant experience and a MSc/PhD.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Software Engineering, Optoelectronics, Electronics, Engineering Physics, or related discipline.
• Object-oriented programming experience with C#, C++, or Java.
• Experience with test systems, scientific equipment, or similar lab/production environments.
• Experience with Python or MATLAB.
• Experience with data analysis, modelling, simulation, or measurement processing is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design and plan new test setups, focusing on software for component control, characterization, and verification.
• Develop and maintain software to control instruments, collect measurements, and process test data.
• Support development and validation of algorithms that automate component control and characterization activities.
• Ensure test processes are robust, reliable, and suitable for development and manufacturing.
• Review, improve, and support release of test software updates in response to product/test spec changes, bug fixes, or deployment needs.
• Analyze measurement data to verify test quality and assist with troubleshooting and root-cause investigations.
• Collaborate with engineering, verification, and manufacturing teams during product development and transition to production.
• Create and maintain documentation for test software, algorithms, and related projects.
• Participate in knowledge sharing on software development practices, library reuse, and optical component characteristics.
