Working closely with the client, design teams, engineers, subcontractors and site personnel, you’ll lead the project team to ensure works are delivered safely, on programme, to the required quality standards and within budget.

This is a hands‑on position combining technical knowledge, project leadership and commercial responsibility, with a strong focus on HVAC, mechanical piping and building services.

Key Responsibilities
Project Planning and Mobilisation

  • Develop project execution plans, budgets, cash flow forecasts and cost control procedures.
  • Prepare and manage procurement schedules, design and drawing programmes, construction schedules and progress tracking tools.
  • Coordinate labour, subcontractors, materials and site resources to meet project requirements.
  • Work with the client and design team to resolve engineering issues and coordinate procurement activities.
  • Establish project‑specific health and safety and quality plans before work commences.
  • Support resource planning and site mobilisation in line with the agreed project strategy.
Project Delivery and Management
  • Manage the day‑to‑day activities of the site team, providing clear direction and ensuring work progresses in line with the programme.
  • Monitor installation activities, labour productivity, material deliveries and overall project progress.
  • Ensure all mechanical works meet the required technical specifications, quality standards and health and safety requirements.
  • Maintain regular communication with the client, attending progress meetings and providing updates on programme, costs and delivery.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and chair regular progress meetings, addressing issues relating to safety, training, quality and performance.
  • Work alongside the Quantity Surveyor to manage project costs, valuations, variations and commercial performance.
  • Monitor progress against the agreed programme and implement corrective measures where required.
  • Provide regular project reports to senior management, highlighting progress, risks, costs and key issues.
  • Support the development and training of site personnel, ensuring the team has the skills and resources needed to deliver successfully.
Testing, Commissioning and Handover
  • Oversee pre‑commissioning, testing and commissioning activities in accordance with project specifications and quality plans.
  • Ensure mechanical systems are completed, tested and documented in preparation for handover.
  • Coordinate system demonstrations and ensure all relevant completion and handover requirements are satisfied.
  • Ensure operation and maintenance manuals, record drawings and other project documentation are completed and submitted on time.
  • Work with the Quantity Surveyor to prepare, submit and agree the final account with the client.
  • Coordinate site demobilisation and prepare project close‑out reports.
  • Ensure project records are properly completed and archived.
  • Maintain client relationships during the defects and warranty period, supporting the resolution of outstanding issues and the recovery of retention payments.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate site records, daily logs and project documentation.
  • Participate in project management meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project delivery, technical performance and commercial outcomes.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and graduates, sharing technical knowledge and experience.
About You
  • Degree, diploma or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a relevant senior trade qualification.
  • At least 8 years' project management experience within mechanical construction or building services.
  • Proven experience delivering small to medium‑sized mechanical projects, ideally within pharmaceutical or other complex technical environments.
  • Strong background in HVAC systems and mechanical building services.
  • Experience with pre‑commissioning, commissioning and system handover processes.
